Sync Won't Login
-
After trialing and liking Vivaldi on desktop, I downloaded the Android app and logged in with my account expecting that I could sync my bookmarks and switch from Chrome. However, while I am able to log in to my Vivaldi account, I cannot get Vivaldi for Android to accept my sync password.
I'm not typing the password incorrectly - it's that after I type my password I press "CONTINUE" and... nothing happens, it acts like I didn't press anything. The lost password and log out buttons function, but the continue button does nothing.
I'm using a Pixel 3 running Android 10.
For now the issue is forcing me to switch back to Chrome - sync is extremely important to me. Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this?

I can confirm that during the login procedure pressing buttons seem to produce no response. But so far I'm not putting much time to the mobile browser.

After further experimentation, this only appears to happen if you deny Vivaldi from using a custom sync password. In these cases it will use your account password as your sync password, which doesn't work with the Android app. However, if you use a custom password then this is avoided and you can use the sync feature.

I believe that a separate password is a requirement now. The only people who are using just their login password are those who set up sync before the requirement was put in place and haven't modified it since. As sync encryption is a different thing than your user account, it should be using a different password.

I was having a similar issue with mine. I even changed my password and sync password a few times trying to get it to work. Eventually, what worked for me was, I backed up to the login screen on android after having reset my sync on desktop, logged out of sync on mobile, logged back in, and then successfully logged into sync.
I thought my issue was that I had changed my sync password while I was logged in, but not synced, on mobile.

If it looks like you've logged in successfully, but your data hasn't been downloaded via the sync, just leave it be for a while, even longer if you have a large profile.
With the release of this beta, and over 150,000 downloads (certainly more at this point) lots of people have been downloading their entire profile for the initial sync to Android. The server has been under abnormally high load. Additionally, the sync code has been in greater than normal flux to support the new product and resolve the bugs. Both the server and code base for synchronization have less than normal stability and this had been causing various sync issues.
Because my bookmark library is so large, after successfully connecting to the server after installation, it takes a few hours before my bookmarks are available in the app. So if you get logged in, and even if it says that the download has completed successfully, let it be for a good chunk of time before making any changes. If you see an error, one thing I did was to change the sync options (disabled other data besides the bookmarks) and hit apply and then waited another hour or so before checking the sync status again. But eventually everything synchronized and I've got my full profile up-to-date.
