SMTP error 5.7.1 - forged sender address ?
-
Hi,
I have started getting a 5.7.1 SMTP error saying "forged sender address" which started yesterday.
The email doesn't get sent (the recipient says he didn't get it) but the message sits in my sent folder.
I never had this problem before. This is happening both through Thunderbird and if I try sending via webmail.
My SMTP settings are: smtp.vivaldi.net on port 587
...and the Contact/Support page at https://vivaldi.com/contact/ doesn't seem to work.
Any help to fix this is greatly appreciated.

The options to send a message either as "Vivaldi.net account and services" or "Something else".
The SUBMIT button doesn't react. -

Apologies for the separate replies. I thought the answer to the first one would come under it.As for the SMTP 5.7.1 error I'm running a test.
My address is a "vivaldi dot net" one. It's starting to look like Vivaldi Mail doesn't like forwarding *.eml attachments from non vivaldi email addresses. Everything else is going through it seems.

In Thunderbird:
I just attach PDF files for example. They are going through without a problem.
When I attach an *.EML (saved email as a file) and attach, I get the 5.7.1 error.
Plain emails without attachments are going through too without a problem.Same results in WEBMAIL.

I wonder if it's just a limitation.
I am trying to attach 3 *.EML files (3 emails) from an external source (not Vivaldi).
Then it throws up the 5.7.1 "forged sender address" message/error.But I'm attaching them as files so I'm surprised it would get confused or mistake as an actual email.
Maybe that's what it's doing... !? -

@elloyd19 Do i understand, you create a regular mail and send a eml fiel as attachment to an other mail address.
And the From is your [email protected] address?//EDIT: I can reproduce this with my account!
Adding a save mail as attachment results in forged sender.Yes. In thunderbird I save an email out as an *.EML file then I want to attach it to a new email to someone else.
That's when I get the 5.7.1 error. -

@elloyd19 I can reproduce it.
I try to file a bug report to Vivaldi and ask in chat.
Thank you Gwen-Dragon.
I'll wait and see. I hope they can fix it.
Cheers! -

I haven't tried but I think it will.
I have tried a different work around which is to add a TXT extenion to the EML.
This has worked and the attachment gets through. For example:
test_email01.eml RENAMED TO test_email01.eml.txt << THIS WORKS! -
gibt es da schon eine Lösung?
jetzt taucht das bei mir auch auf:
"... @gmail.com' am 25.01.2022 13:27
550 5.7.1 forged sender addressgeschehen auf eine Email mit 2 pdf und einem Txt-anhang

Vivaldi Webmail doesn't support multiple identities, so all emails sent using Vivaldi's mail servers need to be sent from [email protected].
When accessing your Vivaldi mail from mail clients, make sure to use your Vivaldi email address as the sender. -
