Auto-sync Bookmarks
-
Hi everyone !
I tried some scripts to capture my bookmarks in my google drive, but it still doesn't work.
I tried with the software WinTask but it seems it doesn't understand the burger menu of Vivaldi and stop the script there.
Anyone tried something similar and achieve it ?
Thanks in advance !

What exactly are you trying to achieve? Sync bookmarks between computers, or sync between browsers?
For syncing between computers, just use Vivaldi's built-in sync. -
@Komposten the user originally posted on the French forum. Basically they want to have a way to automatically export the HTML bookmarks.

@Komposten Hello thanks for your answer
I want to sync with the job computer where I'm sharing a session with multiples person, so I can't install anything on it.
So I was trying to auto-sync my boorkmarks from my personal computer on google drive to access it on the web when I'm working.
Any ideas ?
@LonM Sorry for the double post, I was thinking maybe the international community could help me more

@lucile By all means, you are free to post in both English and french . Hopefully someone may offer an easy solution.

I tried something similar on macOS. The problem is Vivaldi only supports very rudimentary scripting there, exporting bookmarks isn't included – probably the same with Windows.
What's your work browser? You can probably use some extension to share your bookmarks over the cloud from browser to browser.
-
@lucile If it's a work computter there may be limitations as to what you can do without the okay from someone higher up than you.
-
@luetage Oh ok yes, it seems, definitely...
The problem of extension on browser is that I can't install anything, because it's the work sharing session. Thanks for your answer@Para-Noid Yes exactly I can't install anything. That's why I was thinking to sync my home bookmarks on my google drive automatically, to have access of the last version of it at my work

@lucile As a last resort you can always open the
html
file as a tab in the browser. Isn't pretty but you will at least be able to access your bookmarks from google drive. -
@luetage This is exactly what I want to do, open the .html file as a tab in the browser on the job computer from google drive.
What I'm struggle to do is to save my bookmarks.html automatically in my google drive from my personal computer (The reason is there is no direct .html in the Vivaldi document, only a json, so I can't do the operation).

@lucile
Hi, you can use File > Export Bookmarks ...
This is a bit awkward, but I do not know a better way at moment.Cheers, mib
-
@lucile If you do it often, you can assign a shortcut to "Export Bookmarks," in Settings, Keyboard, Page, or just use the access keys Alt+F, E.

There lies another issue. You are trying to use Google Drive. Google is "not" connected to Vivaldi. There is no nexus between Google and Vivaldi.
Another issue is if it's a shared computer, do you really want your coworkers to have access to your personal bookmarks?
This could be rectified if your employer would allow you to create your own personal profile on your work computer. Knowing that your boss will have the ability to see what you are doing.

@mib2berlin Thanks for your answer, this is what I do for now, but it's not really convenient I think...
@Pesala What a BRILLIANT Idea ! I didn't think about this simple solution before ! I think I will run with it !
@Para-Noid The point is that nobody access to my google drive or my bookmarks, 'cause I always use the private navigation and erase everything if needed
