Again, Amazon Prime Video doesn't work in Vivaldi...
-
What are you doing guys? Breaking up what works? Yet another update which breaks media playback...
Looking forward for a fix.Thank you.

You must be new around here
Yes, regressions happen constantly each release.
-
Hello there,
can you describe the issue you are having? The Vivaldi version.
Before jumping on conclusion, please run the test case bellow: -
@lamarca
Vivaldi: 2.6.1566.40 (Stable channel) (64-bit) on Windows 7
The video on the test link works properly.@iAN-CooG ... regressions that break common functionality are usually happening in beta versions, not in stable releases. Unless programmers are amateurs. Which I hardly doubt in case of Vivaldi. So, i'm sure this wasn't planned, but rather a bug that should be sorted ASAP.
This is the error I am getting.
-
@redirect303 Did you contact the web site support? You are getting error 7031. I have no means to repro your issue.
-

In a perfect world yes, but we have to face that Vivaldi often releases "stable" versions with broken functionalities. There are literally thousands of open bugs still not resolved, and not enough coders to fix them all; many times covering one problem, another uncovers.

Working fine for me. 2.6.1566.40 (Stable channel) (64-bit) on Windows 10 OS Version 1903 (Build 18362.175) 64 bit.

Thank you for all replies.
@Gwen-Dragon there is only one Widevine folder (4.10.1440.18)
... just noticed it works in random manner. Some times won't work no matter what (even restarting browser, new tab, nothing helps), but then later on worked. Then stopped working again.
EDIT: when starting a new video, it shows like a quarter of a second of video, then the error pops. So, the video CAN start, but for some reason stops almost immediately. - maybe this can offer a clue?
At least there is this forum post about the issue, maybe it will be investigated and fixed soon.

It's due to the web site issue.
-
@lamarca I edited the post where you responded, i doubt is website issue. It works fine in Waterfox.
-
@redirect303 I checked the error you are getting.

I have the same problem with Vivaldi and Amazon Prime Video.
Firefox, Chrome and Microsoft Edge have no problems whatsoever in Amazon Prime Video playback so what are we to conclude here other than the following:
- A defect in Vivaldi is the problem.
- Amazon does not support Vivaldi, either deliberately, or not.
- A combination of both of the above.
My suspicion is it's number 3. Vivaldi works fine with Netflix, YouTube Premium streaming, Microsoft Store film streaming, BBC iPlayer streaming etc. It seems to me that Vivaldi and Amazon devs are simply uninterested in communicating to fix this technical issue.

@seefer
Hi, Amazon Prime plays fine for me only HD is blocked.
Check first 3 videos > https://tekeye.uk/html/html5-video-test-page
Will check on Windows later, too.

Will this ever be fixed? This is a MAJOR bummer. I see threads as old as 2016 reporting this issue.
-
@andrewhoke It's been fixed numerous times, and Chromium and Amazon keep breaking it again. And it doesn't break everywhere, or for all services. It mostly stays working in the US.
-
@mib2berlin Those videos play fine but are these a fair test? Do they have DRM? Some series on Amazon play okay but others fail utterly (Video Unavailable). I just watched Season 1 of Heroes with current Vivaldi version but Picard, Treadstone and many others fail on every episode so could it be DRM related?
My current Vivaldi version is 2.11.1811.44 (Stable channel) (64-bit).
I have no problems watching Picard and Treadstone using the following:
-
Chrome - Version 80.0.3987.122 (Official Build) (64-bit)
-
Firefox - 73.0.1
-
Microsoft Edge - Version 80.0.361.62 (Official build) (64-bit)

@seefer
Hi, test Picard, Treadstone now and they play fine, too.
I use 2.11.1811.28 snapshot but should not make any difference.
Is it may be a location problem, I stream in Germany.Cheers, mib

I have version 3.3.2022.45 trying to watch All or Nothing Tottenham Hotspur but it's low quality. The test case is fine but I can't get proper quality on Amazon prime.

@cantr11
Hi, Amazon use proprietary video codec for HD and 4K and you have to pay for.
Vivaldi does not.
Btw. I cant play HD video with any chromium browser on Linux, not even Chrome or Opera.Cheers, mib
