Vivaldi 2.6 RC 1 – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1566.31
-
@xyzzy: #enable-quic and #expensive-background-timer-throttling were indeed both "enabled". Reverted them to default, will see how it'll go.

[BUG!] pending SYNC operations make Vivaldi crash, when clicking on duckduckgo's search results
- enable SYNC and create a SYNC PASSWORD, different from the SYNC profile password
- sync all, automatically (SYNC's cloud-shaped icon, in the left corner of the status bar, will turn white)
- disable SYNC (SYNC's cloud-shaped icon, in the left corner of the status bar, will turn transparent)
- copy to a note, some text from a website (three trailing dots will appear into the SYNC's cloud-shaped icon)
- set duckduckgo as default search engine, and activate searches into the address bar
- search for "no sql database"
- click on the blue "wikipedia" link into the top right search result highlight box, to open the noSQL wikipedia page
- Vivaldi will crash
VIVALDI WILL NOT CRASH if you SYNC the note you saved in step 4 AND/OR click a different link in duckducgo search result: Vivaldi crashes only when a SYNC operation is pending AND you click on that link.
If you complete the SYNC and update all (the white icon appears again) you'll be able to open wikipedia's page, without the crash.I'm using Vivaldi DEB64 on Ubuntu 19.04.
-
@newscpq: very weird crash: seems to be related to "Wikipedia" link on DUCKDUCKGO: once happened with SYNC complete. May need to make the search more than once, to crash Vivaldi, but it happens: you click on "wikipedia", and vivaldi crashes.

Very strange. Sometimes my speed dial pictures and Window background image reset, then I have to upload them all again, one by one.
Started to happen in this snapshot.... -
It was OK for a couple of days (I had syncing off) and then I made the crucial mistake and turned sync on again. When Vivaldi restarted, every single speed-dial tile had blanked! The only thumb that remained intact was Vivaldi home. It's the same thing all over again, which means that I have at least one hour of "hard labor" in front of me. Dear devs will you do something about that? It's frustrating!
-
@npro: can confirm, random craching but can't find a reliable trigger to report..very inconsistent.
-
@kant: confirmed, reported as bug VB-54455

@iAN-CooG said in Vivaldi 2.6 RC 1 – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1566.31:
I just noticed in this RC1 version, trying to restore uBlock Origin settings from file it's impossible, because the confirmation pop-up disappears by itself not allowing me to confirm the import from txt.
I had to update from the 1.19.6 to the newer 1.20 version of uBO manually because it was 2 days that the extension was updated in the Chrome webstore but still didn't got updated automatically in Vivaldi.
I saved the settings as txt, uninstalled 1.19.6, reinstalled 1.20 from the webstore, and found this sad surprise.Summary: Restoring uBlock Origin Settings from the saved backup impossible, confirmation box disappears immediately
Key: VB-54473I found a temporary workaround (at least on this Win7 32bit work PC): sometimes the confirmation pop-up remains on screen after switching from the uBO settings tab to About tab and back to Settings, but only once. Enough for me to import my settings. Retrying immediately the pop-up doesn't appear. But closing the uBO settings, opening and doing the switch settings/about/settings then restoring settings works.
-
@jonesjon: I can confirm that. It's not this snapshot but a couple of snapshots back. Everything blanks and all custom thumbs must be reset or all captions must be reloaded. One by one! The problem must be resolved as soon as possible and, in the mean time, the devs must provide us with a script to batch-reassign the tile images.

@newscpq I have the problem on linux as well, but not win10. If I right-click on one of those links and select open in new tab, there is no close/crash either.
I have not set up sync on these yet (debian and manjaro) where the problem occurs.
When I search for audacity, both the "audacity" link and the wikipedia article link would cause the problem. -
@slake Hi, I can not confirm. Do you search using any engine or in the wiki?
-
@lamarca Hi, only duckduckgo search and the descriptive links that appear on right side of page. The common ddg search results are fine.
-
@slake I can trigger the crash, two or three times. Please, submit a bug report. Attach the crash dump:
https://help.vivaldi.com/article/reporting-crashes-on-windows/You will be given a number (VB-xxxxxx), please post here I wll confirm on Linux

@lamarca VB-54521
