Detect and Remove Duplicate URLs
-
Some silly people think it is in their interests to push the URL of their site onto the URL stack several times when visiting it. This has the effect of making Back stay on the same page. It has the added effect of causing annoyance and frustration for the user!
Can multiple contiguously-pushed identical URLs on the URL stack be automatically "scrubbed" back to just a single instance?
Thanks!

@jeronymite thanks for requesting this feature. It would indeed be super helpful to deal with less duplicates.

The makers of the framework behind this forum seem to be one example of such "silly people"
As you scroll down the page, the post message number keeps getting added to the History stack. Although in this case, I'm not sure how easy it would be to "scrub" those additional URLs as just looking at the URL you might say they point to different pages (if the message number was added as #2, #3, etc instead of /2 /3, it would be more obvious that they referred to the same page)An alternative (although not optimal) solution is to use the Rewind button in the navigation bar, which goes back to the first page you visited on that website.
If the Rewind button is not visible in your toolbar (which is the default setting), you may add it by right clicking on the toolbar, Edit -> Customize this toolbar and then dragging the Rewind button into it. -
AFAICS whilst scrolling does add to browsing history it does not impact the previous page history

@yojimbo274064400 True, I stand corrected. I had never realized until now there was a difference between the two (even if I've been navigating this forum for years without having problems going back to the previous thread - just had never thought about it, thanks for pointing it out).
I've edited that remark out of my previous comment - the main purpose was to talk about the Rewind button anyway...
