Setting up encryption in webmail
-
Good morning,
I've imported my pgp keys into webmail, but I am unable to send encrypted e-mails.
The error message is "Encryption failed. Public key not found for ."
I'm stumped. Encryption for my vivaldi e-mail address works fine in Thunderbird. The keys are definetely there and available.
So what am I missing?

Public key? Is it trying to encrypt the mail to the recipient's public key so that only he can read it (using his private key to decrypt it)? The other option is to use your private key to sign the message (leaving it readable but proving it came from you). So then, it is saying that it doesn't know the recipient's public key.

@sgunhouse The public key of the recipient is available. I'll try again from the start then and see... Thanks.

@holgerm let us know if it's working. Otherwise we're happy to help. In case it's not working we gave a few pointers here: https://help.vivaldi.com/article/vivaldi-net-and-its-webmail/#encryption

Hi,
Did you get this solved? I am getting the same issue. I exported my keys from Mailvelope as a single asc format file and imported them into Vivaldi, and it shows they were properly imported (as a key pair). I also received via email and saved a public key from another person. It also shows up in my PGP keys menu. However, I get the following error when I try to send that person an encrypted message:
Encryption failed. Public key not found for myemail@vivaldi.net.
This is weird to me because I believe it should be encrypting the email with that person's public key, not mine, right? I am new to this, so correct me if I am wrong.
When I try to sign the message, I get this error:
Signing failed. Private key not found
When I send the message unecrypted and choose to attach my public key, it works, but the receiver receives only the text content, with no public key attached.
Sorry for hijacking your topic, but I feel this is a related issue, and seeing how this hasn't been answered yet, I hope you won't mind it.
Thanks.

@alvk sorry for the slow reply. I managed to replicate your issue and it seems that the issue lies on the side of mailvelope. Have you tried contacting their support to see if they can help? If not, here's where you can report your issue: https://github.com/mailvelope/mailvelope/issues

@gaelle
Hi,Thanks, no problem. I finally solved the issue. It looks like the exported pgp must have the Vivaldi email address registered to it as a default or alternative ID in mailvelope. Once I did so and re-imported the keys, it started to work.
