This might be a cheeky question and I'll understand if an answer is considered undesirable at this time; but : If we were to assume that the first public release of M3 were to be given the version number "1.0" (I know it's likely to be higher, but whatever), could the team give some sort of indication where they see the most recent M3 build?
-
@Crimsonshade Pre-technical-preview.

Jon von Tetzchner also talks about M3 in an interview with TechCentral:

Where exactly? It is 45 minutes long.
-
@felagund Sometime in the middle of the video.
But it's worth watching the whole 45 minutes. -
@felagund Key points that were partially new impressions to me:
- Vivaldi staff is listening to feedback instead of trusting usage statistics (ok, I knew it before)
- Thunderbird is meh because it does not have Mozilla's attentions + sufficient funding (-> agreed)
- Presto was great (-> it still is) and Jon would've loved to create another engine
- a lot of long-evolved technology is coming to vivaldi this year (android app, calendar is being tested, M3 is hinted at)
- M3 will not support MS Exchange in the beginning

I came back to the forum looking for any progress and saw the locked thread on the first page. So I'm guessing there's still some 'controversy' (at least from a vocal minority) sigh
Anyway, I'm writing up Vivaldi 3 (spoiler: I like it quite a bit) but I still have the nagging wish of the m2/opera mail/m3/whatever it's going to be called implementation. It would be illustrative of the 'big picture' at most, drive home Vivaldi's lede line of "We live in our browsers" at the least.
At any rate, I'm glad to see it's coming along and wish you the best.

What forum do you mean?

This forum that I'm posting in. It was a YAIVIAEPIWBB thread ('Yet Another if Vivaldi implements an E-mail Program it Will Become Bloated')

I see. Probably deleted, I cannot see it. Whatever:-). I think it makes sense to have one thread per topic.
-
@felagund It was moved to the "all platforms" category.
-
I see. It happened a few days ago and so it was not on the first page anymore: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/46788/thread-for-m3-argument-and-off-topic-from-a-blog-post
-
@felagund Yup.
-
I really cannot wait to show you all M3. I am very proud of the effort going into making it available to you.
Cheers,
Jon. -
@jon So go on and give us a glimpse. Awaiting late night screenshots

@jumpsq I think he'll do better than a "glimpse." He's the boss, after all, so if he "can't" wait, who knows? It's up to him when it sees the light of day...
-
@Ayespy Sure, I won't oppose any of his treats. But I'd still not complain if I was being teased right away.
