Any word on M3? (internal mail client)

Its been 5 years now, even Gmail was out of beta in 5 years.

And now M3 must play nice with it, which is nearly impossible, (because it does nothing standardly) and doubtless one of the worst stumbling blocks.

It is frustrating to not be able to show you what we are building. I am so excited to show you and it is getting closer. I continue to use M3 myself and some other cool stuff we are working on. There are still things to work on and we continue to polish what we got.

I found vivaldi and my new hope for Opera Mail (M2) in an updated form today. That is great!
So, I am really happy to have found it.

Before I found this, I made a long and detailed post on Opera forums. About why I love Opera Mail, why I still use Opera Mail and why Opera Mail is such a great Mail Client.

Now I found vivaldi and I read about your plans for M3 as "updated" M2. Beside many old forum posts, I did not find any real information about your M3 plans.
When switching from M2 to M3, when time arrives and you will release it, there are some "must have" features to make the switch. I also have questions about migration.
Do I find any content about M3 where I can read already what M3 is capable of (and what it is lacking)?

My most important points would be:

possibility to transfer all Email Accounts and all Emails (without losing anything!) from M2 to M3 will be available?
Many of my emails use opera Mail "labels". Labels in Opera Mail are great! Can also "labels" be transferred from M2 to M3?
Will be rules for Mail labels available as in M2? Very great is the "RegEx" ability. RegEx on different Mail parts and combine RegEx rules with AND/OR same as M2 do. It's a great M2 feature.
I think all default Email Client features like printing mails, save mails, spell checker when writing emails, email signature per email account, IMAP Settings, IMAP folders, email formatting, settings if email should be saved offline or not, etc.... will be available also. Nothing fancy, but the M2 features would be great.
Also fast text search through all emails, like M2 do so well.

The great thing about M2 is, how incredible fast it is. RegEx rules can be very, very, very complex and big and still it is labeling my very, very big email account so fast.
Is there any content or road map where we can read about these things?

I am very happy to found vivaldi and look forward to a great M3 Email Client, which will be great as M2 and integrated in a browser again! Last thing for me is not must-have, but I know that many old Opera user love to have Email and Browser again in one Application.

There are still things to work on and we continue to polish what we got.

For me... I do not need it polished. I just need M2. And some small enhancements (helper for quoting, better html formatting, enhanced and/or-connection in label rules) and very minor bugfixes would be just enough.

"Polish" can mean a lot of different things to different people. Given that there are many eMail service providers, there are a lot of potential idiosyncrasies in those eMail servers. Even though the protocols for eMail are well-established, there's a lot of room for variation in how different services process their message flow, the features they offer, and the assumptions they make about visiting eMail browsers. The consequence of not 'getting it right' in terms of "polish" for an eMail browser can range from lost messages or erratic service to merely not being able to reliably provide certain 'creature comforts' in the browser. The nature and general importance of user eMails pretty much demand that everything be 'gotten right' before launching a new browser into the world.

@TimB79 Expected status and features at time of release are still in flux. There is no content concerning what it can do and what it lacks, as it's still in flux.

I will say this - I find the text search better than M2. Import is being kept in mind.

More I cannot say at present.

I know that ~~Vivaldi Mail, informally called~~ M3 is currently between alpha/beta status: only the team and a small subset internal of testers can try it. Maybe will land on snapshot channel soon, maybe not.
It doesn't need to be polished (at least in the first iteration), but they have to be sure it won't destroy user mails due the critical nature of any mail client. Some "advanced features" may need more time to be present.
Actually, I hope it will be better than M2, so I can ditch Thunderbird portable (I rely on its rule sets system) ^^,

Thank you all for your answers.

So, if there is nothing to read, then I have to wait.
I hope the mentioned functional/feature aspects will be considered and to have a good process for migration.
Of course, if by "polish" you mean "stabilize" it and make it safe to use and reliably, then "polishing" in this case is more important as bring it public early. An Email Client of course have to be very reliably, same as M2 is.

I am happy to see M3 in the future. In the meantime I get into vivaldi browser, which I already like much when opening first time.
Thank all developers, project leaders and tester for your great work! Power User will love it! I am sure.

Our goal for M3 is that is to be a better mail client than any other mail client out there, including our old M2 mail client. We are very much working on stabilization, but while we work on that, we polish some features. That being said, there are bound to be features that are unfinished or missing, that people want to use. For my use M3 is already close to perfect, but as with all things Vivaldi, the goal is to satisfy all your needs and wants, one at a time, but as fast as possible.

Right now I don't need "so much", Vivaldi works fine (Thank you, by the way). I would be content with just two things

M3 with POP3 to get rid of M2 (which is getting buggier every year) and
the ability to prevent my bandwidth (and download volume) being consumed by html5-videos I am not interested in.

I share a similar sentiment.
Sure I like "cool new features" e.g. I am happy about the development around "pop-out video capabilities" but I am (still) using Opera 12.18 daily like 50 times as my sole e-mail and news feeds hub (including my own spam filter I started configuring like a decade ago).

Yes it is annoying, I manually copy every link I want to visit out of an e-mail or a news feed into Vivaldi.

So me personally, I would give M3 the only "highest priority" ticket there is.

In Opera 12, "Alt + P -> Advanced -> Programs", you can add http and https protocols and set them to open with the default browser on the system or a specific browser. Then, clicking on links will open in Vivaldi.

There are catches though:

When Opera loads the link in a new tab to trigger passing it on to the default browser, Opera leaves the tab open instead of automatically closing it. Not too big of a deal though.
When viewing a feed message, if it make use of an iframe, Opera will load the framed page in the default browser (Vivaldi for example) instead of in the message preview pane. This can be kind of annoying if you like to read the full feed message in Opera instead of going to the site.

Very interesting! This is what I have missed a long time still using M2 until M3 is arriving. Can you say me how I can suppress M2 new-tab in O12 when clicking on a link in a mail before opens it in the external browser?

Well I just did a new build, and not even dual boot, straight mint 19.3, haven't booted to windows in 2 years, buuuuut!!. Now I have to load M2
and, do any one of you super users have an easy script to fix the dependency issue so it will work off of install instead of the launcher work around? I am worried that it may not be saving every thing correctly , or it can to easily be corrupted????

Being a new product developer myself, I see both sides of the problem, but at some point, I have to make sure it wont do damage, and then release a product that isnt what I want but is better than whats out there, and it looks like you might be at that point
