What is stopping you from using V all the time?
-
At the moment I'm waiting for this features (all from old-Opera):
- Sync
- Option to Delete ALL data on closing browser (cookie, password, ecc.),
- "Past Note" in contextual menu,
- Possibility to dock Developer Tools (like every browser does!),
- Option to activate plug-in only by request (es. Flash, Java, ecc.).
After that… VIVALDI will be my only love... like old-Opera did for many many years!
P.S. I know that points 1 and 4 are incoming!

On topic:
2 things which make me switch. First one, and most important one, is lack of a fast access to bookmarks menu. You either need to have the side panel opened (eeeewww) or an extra bar below the adress bar (eeewwww). An icon or something, after clicking which your bookmarks would pop, like in Opera 12, Maxthon or Firefox. I want a minimalist browser (max 2 bars) with easy bookmarks browsing. Second is the side panel, it can't be permanently disabled/hidden, which is totally annoying.
Only been using Vivaldi a short time but agree with this, the bookmarks. Also for some reason I really dislike that you have to double click rather than single click on them.

F4 quickly toggles the sidebar. F2 > Toggle Panel also does.

Where's the CSS for that? Can we make it accessable, documented and usable? So for projects that are "Opera Only" (now "Vivaldi only") can can use things like the build in slider, or colors and color schemes for the browser skin. How to restore them when the browser reset? That is, why make every app have to write it's own skinning code if you can simply inherit the colors from the browser skin?
For months the responses out of Opera about this were to pretend it didn't exist or to say you can't do that.
To this day I still use one of the skins from that era, that's more appropriate for a scientific workstation and not a yellow and green e-commerce thing for teenagers like Chromium defaults to.
So, in summary:
-
Need the title bar back (even if you just inset it or change the color subtly, but I need a target)
-
Document internal interface bits so apps can skin themselves to the current browser skin (then you can
change the browser skin and now they have different skins.
Startup time is kind of a non-issue with me. I don't count it. I do notice a touch of lagginess in the UI (not on the 8-year-old machine, but on the 13-year-old one), which I expect at this stage - nothing near as bad as with the first couple of TPs.

The only thing stopping me from switching completely would be some sort of tree style tabs or panorama tab groups(both would be best) and tab stacking in vertical it would be nice if it simply split the entire height of the tab instead of just an extremely small line at the top <.< and yes I know how awful that would look
edit- I just noticed the address bar that opens when you press 'o' does not ignore the keybindings of single bound keys like the quick actions menu does so if you have 'r' bound to reload page and try to type reddit the page will reload

@booBot:
… "open source = more trustworthy" ...
I still trust Opera Presto despite it is closed source. I do not trust FF despite it is being "open source".
Now regarding to the general webkit/blink objection: I'll look at any webkit-based browser not earlier than they fix this issue.
That's a valid complaint about Chrome, Chromium, and Safari, but it's not a rendering engine issue. It has nothing to do with WebKit/Blink itself.

After a while it gets too slow, it isn't as snappy as Firefox or Chrome yet. Maybe there's still a memory leak involved.
There aren't enough tab options yet, especially that it always jumps to the last active tab after closing a tab is driving me crazy.
But it's not even beta yet, I hope it will become my main browser some time in the future…

+1, especially for the tab activation order after closing a tab, which renders V unusable for me right now.
Nevertheless, it is a good start. -
Try middle-click.
I use that already to open links in background tabs, but what if I want to open another link in the same tab?
-
lack of good rss client (or working mail client)
-
- No bookmarks in the horizontal menu.
- Can't import all my passwords from opera12.

Well, for browsing, at least. And at work. Still not sure I can give up Opera 12.17 at home. Email, you know.

I've just begun using Vivaldi! I'm old user from Presto days, I left the new Opera for Firefox when they chose to dumb down.
Anyway, I like what I see so far. Very good browser. I'm so happy to have integrated notes back!!! :woohoo: For me it is very fast, much faster than Firefox, but then I'm on Yosemite, so it might depend on your OS and of course what addons you have.
Firefox can be a resource hog, but it is very customisable. I've now got my set up as I like, even though it can be slow.
For me to switch I would absolutely need rss reader. I currently use mPage addon. Which is very good.
I would need trackpad gestures for OSX. I can not switch at all until Vivaldi has this.
I am so-so about possible calendar integration/sync. It's something for the future maybe. Addons are not good in this area, it's the sort of thing Opera would have done very well if they'd not chosen to destroy Presto.

@wupi:

No custom Mouse Gestures.
I'll +1 and add the inability to choose what page opens when I open a new tab (blank page or preset page like google front page).

1. No possibilities to rearrange the extension icons in a customized order
It's really annoying always to see the automatically uglily sorted extension icons on the toolbar. Some people may not be annoyed by that but I want to have each of the icons on the positions I like.2. It's fast, yet it gets very very slow
After startup the browser is actually fast. In my test, Vivaldi completed page loading even faster than Chrome and Opera.
But the longer the browser is open, the slower it gets in a significant ratio and becomes slower than other browsers. In addition, the response to typing gets slower - This is easily to experience when you use Japanese IME.3. No search providers's suggestions in address bar & search bar
Some people hate search suggestions provided by search providers such as Google. Mostly because they want to reduce the chances that i.e. Google tracks their private data.
But, for me, Google search suggest is important to work smoothly. When I work on PC, I use Japanese, German and English. If I use Chrome, Opera, Yandex, Kinza, Slimjet, Cent Browser, 7Star or some other browser like these, the address bar pulldown list shows the suggests which is appropriate to the language I want to have without having to change the input language from English. For example, if I type "erw", the suggest shows "erwähnen" (German), if I type "tokyo suka", it shows "東京スカイツリー" (Japanese) - This way, I can save the time to change the typing mode between Englisch, German, Japanese Romaji direct input and Japanese Romaji Kana conversion mode.
After all, even if Vivaldi were the fastest browser, it does not save my time as long as it does not support search provider's suggests in the address & search bar. So, there should be the settings option for the user to decide whether the suggest should be turned on or off.If these 3 points are cleared, Vivaldi will be my main browser.

@Jin V.
Can't tell you how to resolve the other ones, but on #1, do you have the latest snapshot? Because many snapshots ago, it gave the ability to take off the ugly extension buttons. Check for the latest snapshot or the new Beta and check if you can also move the buttons, because I'm sure you can.

Pretty sure you can't. You can remove them, but not move them.

Proper session management, with multiple sessions you can save and load freely. Basically what Opera had would suffice, I don't need to see what's in them, I just need to be able to save them and load them on command.
Ctrl-click on an image to open up a save image dialog. None of that "always save to yadayada folder" nonsense, I have very organized folders and like to keep them that way. For what it's worth, Maxthon has a WONDERFUL Save dialog. You have the option to open the file instead of saving, which is always fantastic to have and is common, but the real stroke of genius is how they handled the save location: There's a text field where the name of the folder you're saving to is. Initially it's the last one you used, but it's also a drop-down list of the ones you've used previously. I have several folders where I save stuff on a regular basis, and this is great because I can easily find those folders in the list, rather than having to navigate my way there. Massively useful feature that I'd love to have in Vivaldi as well.
User customizable mouse gestures (via the setups menu rather than just file editing).
