How to enable and disable Javascript?
-
Both my webmail and banking service require Javascript. I can't find any way to manage this in Vivaldi. A search through the Settings finds nothing. Forum and web searches find only obsolete info, as far as I can tell (controls that no longer exist etc).
I'm amazed at how hard this is, at this point. Hasn't dealing with JS, one way or another, been resolved years ago? I must be missing something.

@vivipop Have you tried Site Settings under the security icon at the far left of the address bar?
-
@vivipop
One more for the team:-
JS is always off here.chrome://settings/content/javascript
It's per site.

It's enable by default
-
Got it, thanks for the help. I've used Chrome for years and never knew about the per-site info under the Address Bar icon.
I didn't realize that Vivaldi "internal" settings must be reached via Chrome-fu. (Evidently... I found no other way to get there.)
-
@vivipop Yes - several internals are still only available via chrome:// because the corollary Vivaldi pages for these functions still have not been built - one of the liabilities of using someone else's engine, and needing all of your development resources to build the things that distinguish the browser from the crowd.
-
You can also use uBlock Origin
-
Yes, thank you. uBlock Origin is great. In this case I thought my problem was needing to enable JS, not to disable it. Turns out it is enabled by default and my issue with the mail and bank site must be some other browser / JS / site incompatibility. Will experiment further.
-
@Vivipop , did you ever figure out what the problem was? Because i can't get it to work right either just like you described, and my javascript is enabled.
-
I just had a video on cnet.com tell me to either enable Javascript or watch it on YouTube.
What solved it in this case was to manually add https://www.cnet.com to the "allow" list at vivaldi://settings/content/javascript. The video played perfectly then (after refreshing the cnet.com page).
No idea why - maybe I'd done something in the past that I don't remember - but anyway it worked.

I am trying to access the exact same web page from Vivaldi and Edge.
In Vivaldi, I get a popup saying Javascript from mynoise.net: "To hear a preview, enable auto-play in your browser settings.
In Edge, it works fine. I checked the Edge settings, and javascripts is enabled.
In Vivaldi 5.6.2867.36, there is no such setting! How can I get this website to work in Vivaldi? (I.e. how do enable Javascript?
-
@bengta The page you link to works perfectly fine in Vivaldi - tested in a clean profile of 5.6 Stable on Win10 x64.
JS is enabled by default in Vivaldi.
I have Autoplay disabled in Vivaldi settings. This is not about Autoplay.Please try the troubleshooting steps, including testing in a clean profile and disabling adblocking/extensions:

@Pathduck
Thanks for the info!I just realized the previews actually work (despite the popup).
-
@bengta There is no popup on that site for me, so something must be wrong on your system and I suggest you have a look at figuring out what it is. Might be an extension interfering for instance.

@Ayespy
I have enabled Javascript in Chrome by default.
But cannot load "carsales.com.au" in Vivaldi which I am able to do in Chrome.
There will be others - I'm assuming.
Running Win10-64 on desktop.
All up to date with versions.
Also, the site wants any adblocker off which is not asked in Chrome where I am actually running Adblock.
thanks -
@Inclement Probably JS are blocked globally. Check here:
chrome://settings/content/javascript
@2ujonson No issue on the site, but I use UbO. Try disable vivaldi adblocker. -
I have checked and the setting is as shown in the snapshot attached.
I am using Adblock in Chrome.
any idea why I would have to turn off the Vivaldi adblocker ?
(in Vivaldi it is set to block Trackers but not Ads.)
thnx for your reply and help! -

Maybe a rule which is not correctly parsed which break the site. Disabling the blocker only on the site is just to exclude it as a possible cause
-
thnx again
I'll reboot in case the parsing function is not updating without restart ...
