Ability to turn on and run Silverlight
-
Hi Folks,
First, I'd like to say that since I started using Vivaldi about a month ago, it has become my go to browser! Love it's lighter footprint and the ability to hibernate tabs (a key feature, IMO).
The one item missing is the ability to run Silverlight.
There are certain financial websites where you need to run Silverlight in the browser.
Right now, I get that functionality via Pale Moon or IE, but there are other issues with those browsers.IF Vivaldi could somehow allow the user to trigger that Silverlight functionality, it would be fantastic.
Thanks so much.

I'm aware of that issue.
However, it can easily be handled with a few words or warning to the user just like the warning on experimental features.
One of the key elements of Vivaldi is the control it allows the user.
"Safe" setting options are available through the menu.
Other customizations are available at the users own risk. People understand that. -
There's also the difficulty of maintaining an engine that supports plugin. The engine devs (everyone who develops chrome) are phasing out plugins, so vivaldi would need to maintain that themselves. Doing so for something that is already deprecated seems like an unwise use of resources.
That said, perhaps maintaining support would be easy, I'm not sure.

You have a good point LonM. If indeed it would require that unbalanced cost/benefit, then I see your point.
Could it be handled via an Extension?
Of course that would require a developer to take the time to construct such an extension. I'm not sure how difficult that would be. It may not be that hard since the Silverlight program exists on the user's laptop. Would have to call it up. Am I wrong?
Thanks for your thoughts! -
it's waste of time and other resources to make an extension for a technique, which is more or less abandoned even by its creator (Microsoft)! Chrome and Firefox already don't support silverlight so only a small amount of webpages can fall back to offer a webservice which uses silverlight. Especially since there are already alternative solutions.
if a super programmer could code an extension in less than half an hour, than it would be "not [...] that hard"if anyone needs more time, it's not very practical (IMO)

I think the best use of everyone's resources would be to direct a request to those websites instead:
" To use this functionality in your website I need to run Silverlight in the browser.
Right now, I get that functionality via Pale Moon or IE, but there are issues with those browsers.
IF you could somehow allow the use of that functionality through some alternate, more modern technology, it would be fantastic." -
