Better Vivaldi Mascot Design

@luetage I certainly wouldn't trust me with design decisions.

It seems like they don't trust the community with design decisions
You know, it's not about the trust. Corporate identity is not something that you get via a community contest. It's rather something that you hire professionals for.
Although, as for the Tony, I think it's different. It's a mascot - not a logo. He's not the first thing that comes to people's minds after thinking about the Vivaldi brand. I wouldn't call a contest for a new Tony design a bad idea, although I've seen many brands doing such contests just to engage their fans and not to actually get some new branding...

@pafflick So what are you saying? They should do a contest and then ignore it? I don't see the point. And we are all free to post our own designs for a Vivaldi mascot just for fun (and right in this topic), nobody needs a contest for that. The trust part was more a nod to the second part of @metafaniel's suggestion โ they do a couple designs and we vote; and yeah, I believe they wouldn't trust us with such a decision.

I don't see a point in what you said either. I haven't said anything about what they should or shouldn't do. I merely just pointed out how it usually works. But it's up to them whether they want to make a design contest of any sort or not.

Oh, I understand. I thought you had this idea in mind. I agree with your point here. As I said - corporate identity is not something that you organize community contests for (even if there is no option to submit your own designs). But on the other hand, I don't think Tony is an essential part of Vivaldi's corporate identity...

@pafflick Hmm, I'd say just because Tony isn't an integral part of the identity right now, doesn't mean he couldn't become one (or whatever mascot they choose). E.g. Linux is recognised by its mascot, I'd imagine it would be an advantage to have a likeable and recognisable character. So yeah, it makes sense to work on it.

Tony by itself is not my very best choice speaking of characters, yet as the title says a better mascot design is needed. That means, as commented before, that Tony can be replaced by another character (one option) or just be developed to have more personality and to be more in line with Vivaldi's vision.

(...) it's kind of driving a Porsche with a big Mario Bros sticker on it
This is for me the feeling too. I'm a Mario fan yet I won't use a sticker of him in my Porsche. Yet maybe a Tony remix/rehash could be enough.

(...)four more upvotes is not many. Are the many waiting for a poll outside this topic? That is a bad idea.
Thanks for your comment. Yes, I got the point, that's why I said about the zero voting (not many votes in this completely side-quest for Vivaldi teammates). I just want to notice this aspect can be much more developed and increase that this is the greatest browser feeling giving importance to even little aspects and the community opinion.

I would be very surprised, if this happened. I can recall there was a similar suggestion at the time when the new Vivaldi logo was about to be released. It seems like they don't trust the community with design decisions and that's probably justified.I understand, thanks for pointing it out. I just suggested this because Vivaldi is in active development, so its design and marketing efforts.
I suggested this just because I have enjoyed so much some Kickstarter/IndieGoGo campaigns that take into consideration its users for some design decisions. I think this is cool and creates closeness.Anyway, these are just suggestions with the passion of a happy Vivaldi user

I never said he couldn't. I said that I don't think that he is - in other words, I think that this is something that they could do a community contest for - and it might turn out to be a great idea (unlike a contest for the whole corporate identity, which would be probably a bad idea).
None of this changes the fact that I support the idea of promoting it (or promoting the browser with it), although I'm one of those preferring the current design (unless I see something better).

I think Tony deserves to ascend to a real pet, associated with the product, like the Linux penguin, instead of being relegated to a simple replacement of the Pixel-Dino of Chrome, because that can be a good carrier of sympathies and product of Merchandising (plush toys, key rings, T-Shirts, etc), as it also happens with Tux

Some time has passed... So, just to update: I just noticed Tony is not present lately in the errors where I used to see him like for example the following:
Vivaldi 261566.44Tony sausage version, still appears as a replacement for the TRex in the Dino game.
So what does this means for Tony? Will the Vivaldi's mascot be removed completely eventually? Or is it being rebranded? The sausage version will remain? This may be a minor subject for some but it is about the Vivaldi brand.
THANKS for clarifying!P.S. I feel more comfortable with the current icon. I have nothing against mascots: to the contrary they're important. But as I said before a more in-line with Vivaldi's greatness/elegance would be much appreciated.

@metafaniel I believe Tony is effectively dead โ the Dino game just being an artifact which remained. Sooner or later it will be out too.
