Hi, New From Brave, Poking Around
-
Hey all!
I'm a Brave (browser) user, and heard of Vivaldi. As Brave is pretty buggy, I decided to check into Vivaldi when I heard you guys are into keeping your user info private.
I've played with the customization and the fact that you guys allow modding (something I've never, ever, EVER done before) and give a basic how to for it (making me want to learn) is a bonus. I like the simplicity of the customization you have, yet it seems entirely (I really wanna use a different word here, but can't think of one, LOL) customizable. There're even some features that are entirely new to me (tab stacking, anyone?).
I haven't used a Microsoft browser in over a decade, been off of FF for years (with the rare exception - like when I can't access something with Brave), and won't touch Chrome with a 10 foot pole. Just to give y'all an idea where I'm at here.
Cheers,
Belle -
@belle Hello Belle,
welcome to Vivaldi. I'm pretty sure you won't regret your choice (I used FF and Brave in the past as well and now, I'm quite stuck with Vivaldi).
What do you want to know about tab stacking?
Enjoy your new browsing experience! -

Welcome!

Vivaldi keeps (nearly) all its bugs in the snapshot channel, so keep to "stable". This is the one with the red V icon.
keeping your user info private.
Very much so! Sync is coming soon, and will allow you to encrypt it so not even vivaldi can see it on their servers.
the customization ... modding ... (making me want to learn) ... some features that are entirely new to me (tab stacking, anyone?).
The best course of action here is to just look around the forums and play around with what you see. I find that's the best way to learn.
won't touch Chrome with a 10 foot pole
Be aware that vivaldi uses the open source part of chrome - the chromium engine. All of the google stuff has been stripped out which is good.

Hi!
Nothing, unless you have a video that shows the browser while also explaining. Merely reading the words will confuse me, since I don't know all the lingo. I appreciate it. Besides, I think I already have it figured out.

I read about that & looking forward to it.

That's my plan of action!

I noticed; as does Brave. But I've noticed none are perfect for every user/user's needs, so as long as privacy is paramount and nothing's shared with Google/affiliates, I'm most likely good with that.

Good news! I didn't plan to make a video of it
But I just found one that explains it Vivaldi browser tile tab stack -

Learn something new every day.

@belle I'm glad you discovered it with the video and I'm glad you seem to be already enthusiast about Vivaldi. You'll discover more and more features by using it on a daily basis.

Making modifications can be fairly easy with some help from the experts. I use the following code to make speed dial thumbnails and folder transparent and to remove the navigation bar from Speed Dial.
.startpage .dial .thumbnail-image {
background-color: transparent;
}
.speeddial .dial-columns .folder .thumbnail .thumbnail-image {
box-shadow: none !important;
border-width: 0;
transition: all 0s ease 0s;
}
.speeddial .dial-columns .folder .thumbnail>.thumbnail-image {
background: none !important;
}
.speeddial .dial-columns .folder .thumbnail .folder-flap {
display: none;
}
.thumbnail-image {box-shadow: none !important;}
.startpage-navigation {
display: none !important;}I have to copy/paste the code from my custom.css file to the common.css file after each update. It only takes a minute.
Later, I hope that Vivaldi will be able to Preserve Custom Modifications Across Upgrades

Thanks for sharing the code you use! I'm an utter newbie, so that makes little sense to me; figured out the borders 0 part I think - that's what (my brain isn't working!!! Can't think of the correct word!) makes the bar vanish, yes?
I'll save it and come back to it once I've learned some. I'm definitely not doing anything without some guidance.

If you want my code it's here
#tabs-container{ width: 60px !important; } /* I have tabs on the right and don't want to resize accidentally */ /* Use transparent background for SD navigation (it's in 'development') */ .startpage .startpage-navigation { box-shadow: none !important; } button.button-startpage { box-shadow: none !important; } .dials .dial:not(.dragging):hover .thumbnail-image { transform: none !important; } button.button-startpage:after { background-image: none !important; } button.button-startpage.active { background: none !important; } /* don't show 'new tab' button */ .newtab {display: none} /* move find bar to bottom */ .find-in-page + .devtools-container .webpage { top: 0 !important; bottom: 35px;} .find-in-page { bottom: 0; } .thumbnail-image{ background-color: transparent !important; border: none !important; box-shadow: none !important; }

Welcome to the Community @Belle!!!
If you come across a feature or a setting that you're not quite sure what it does or how to use it, have a look at the first link in @Pesala's first comment. On the Help Pages we have descriptions and instructions (commonly with screenshots, gifs or video clips) for most of our features.
And as you've already witnessed yourself, we have many cool and helpful Community members, who will do their best to answer your questions.@Pesala said:

@potmeklecbohdan No, they just fixed it. Code used to have a black background, now it's white. You are comparing code with quote

I know, in the toolbar on the top is missing "Code" button so I didn't know how to insert it .
