Paste-and-go reuses the current tab
-
I'm pretty sure there should be a topic on it already, but can't find it myself.
Any news on this bug?
-
@anrdaemon Could please be more specific, and describe the issue you are having?
Thanks

@anrdaemon I'm not sure what the bug you refer to is?
Are you thinking the address bar is separate from the TAB and so expecting the "paste and go" target to open in a new tab?
That is not how it works "Paste and Go" will always action on the current tab.Workarounds - using Paste (Ctrl-V) instead
Paste and Shift-Enter will open in a new (foreground) tab.
Paste and Ctrl-Shift-Enter will open in a new (background) tab.Edit: Or an alternative is to use Quick Command (F2) - with "Tools / Settings / Quick Command" set to "Open in New Tab"

You can force it to open in a new tab by holding down the shift key when you select "Paste and Go" from the context menu, or in a new background tab if you hold down the control key.

Oh wow - I didn't know that !!

Somehow this old trick was not working. The page was redirected to the Seach Engine, which was checked

I only use it as a hotkey, and it always uses current tab to load the address.
And with shift it is an entirely different keybind. -
It's not a bug. That is how it was designed to work in Vivaldi. Opera 54 and Firefox 61 are the same.
In Opera 12.18, however, paste and go opens a new tab.

and that was a good thing, Vivaldi should make it available as option.

That's why I use Opera. As default browser, Vivaldi is just unusable.

@anrdaemon That is the problem if you expect that Vivaldi has same behavior all Opera 12 had.
If you need such feature, please request for it [...]
-
Thanks. I knew it should be somewhere.

@gwen-dragon said in Paste-and-go reuses the current tab:
That is no bug. Paste & Go does destroy nothing.
Especially if you have a form open with data entered. Sure.
That is as designed for Vivaldi.
I see no reason for it to behave like this.
"Go to selection" opens a new tab.
Internet shortcuts open a new tab.
Suddenly, Paste&Go uses current tab. -

There is nothing surprising about it. Typing any URL in the address bar and pressing Enter reuses the current tab. One has to press Shift+Enter to open a new tab.
Opera 12.18 has an option for "Reuse Current Tab," which will make Paste and Go behave just like Opera 54, Firefox, and Vivaldi.
We can all understand why someone might prefer a different behaviour, but it is a feature request, not a bug.

Even more expected when Opera 12.18 default is to reuse the current tab. Has been like that at least since v9 if not ever.

I'm not typing anything into address bar.
-
@anrdaemon We know, what @Pesala is saying is that typing and pressing Enter uses the same tab, thus pasting and pressing Enter should also use the same tab so it's consistent.
And that's the name of the feature, Paste and Go, not "Paste and Go in another tab".
And as I said, that's an extra setting also in Presto Opera, even Presto default is like Vivaldi. So we came to the conclusion that it's not a bug, but a feature request.
