Improve Information on Secure Connections
-
Hi,
my request is, to facilitate the access to information about secure connections.
To make my points clearer, I've made some screenshots, comparing the details view from (chromium based) Opera to Vivaldi:-
While the "Details" link in Opera shows details on the CA, TLS version, algorithms and key length, Vivaldi's "More information" link points to a Google page with a standard text about secure connections
-
Vivaldi differs between DV and EV certificates only in the address bar, the info dialog is exactly the same. In Opera the for an EV certificate, the Company is explicitely shown and the info text changes from "The connection is secure" to "The connection is secure and the organization is known."
-
I think the text in Opera is way better, since it only makes an statement on the connection and if additional measures to check the identity of the site owner. Vivaldi suggests, that my information stays private. But that also depends on the security of the website, the trustworthiness of the site owner and not only on the encrypted connection.
-
Also the "visited information" may be helpful in case of phishing. If I'm unsure and look into the details and it displays, that I've never visited my bank site before, I should get even more cautious...
By the way, I like the web site settings in this place very much, that's way better in Vivaldi, than in Opera...

@BigMike It's not very clear, maybe, but you have to click "certificate (valid)" to see details about it.
"Learn more" just explain what padblock is/mean. -
@hadden89 No, if I click on "certificate (valid)" I see the certificate details. The corresponding thing happens if you click on the name in Opera's details. To get the protocol information in Vivaldi, I need to open the development tools and go to the security page, which isn't intuitive at all (but it's already there and could be displayed in a more user friendly way):

@bigmike True. Well, having such infos in popup would be nice.
