EverSync - Sync Bookmarks across browsers
-
I've used the Chrome extension of EverySync on Vivaldi, but somehow it doesn't follow the same structure
Chrome: Bookmarks bar & Other bookmarks.
Firefox: Bookmarks Toolbar & Bookmarks Menu
EverSync: Toolbar & MenuSync process:
- (EverySync) Toolbar/(Chrome) Bookmarks bar/(Firefox) Bookmarks Toolbar
- (EverySync) Menu/(Chrome) Other bookmarks/(Firefox) Bookmarks Menu
But Vivaldi only syncs #1, the toolbars folder and ignores #2 the Menu folder. Vivaldi just consider the toolbar bookmarks as the main bookmarks folder.
Is this a known issue? Sorry if I've repeated this question, but I've search around and didn't find similar problems like mine.

@notorious Vivaldi has a different file structure from Chrome, and a different Bookmarks database structure. Most "universal" sync applications can only see Vivaldi's Bookmarks Bar folder.

Ahh ok, unless I use Vivaldi's structure on Chrome and others
Well I hope it will be fix one day, thanks so much.

@notorious I solved it my keeping all of my bookmarks in subfolders of the bookmarks bar when I was syncing cross-browser. It became such a habit, I still do it.

Yea that will work, but i'm not if I can live with all bookmarks appearing in the bookmark bar in Chrome and Firefox yet, in Vivaldi we can select what bookmark to show on bar so that solved it. Perhaps Chrome and Firefox should adapt this :))

@notorious My bookmarks bar has 35 bookmarks and 7 folders. In those 7 folders and subfolders are the rest of my 1500 or so bookmarks.

1500 bookmarks....dayum~

@notorious It's not really that many. I'm a piker compared to some here.

Hahah I think I might have that amount at one point, all those years of collection, have to do house keeping once in a while, realizing a lot are not working no more :p

just wanted to add:
Eversync does sync the other bookmarks as well... but in vivaldi they land in the recycle bin.
-
I use EverSync since xmarks stopped working.
Unfortunately EverSync in Vivaldi crashes Vivaldi.
It works in chromium and firefox without problems.Such a pity, because Vivaldi has the tiling-tabs function which no other browser has. But without syncing of bookmarks, Vivaldi is not usable for me.
( I have several Linux-Distros which I use. Manjaro, EndeavourOS, LinuxMint, PeppermintOS )
Vivaldi crashes when I click on Bookmarks inside EverSync in all of these Linux Distros. -
@bichler
Hi, may I ask why you donยดt use the Vivaldi sync feature?
I can sync many other files and settings not only bookmarks.Cheers, mib
-
@mib2berlin ,
thanks for asking.
Most of the times I am using chromium. There I delete and add booksmarks daily.With the Vivaldi sync feature those changes in the bookmarks cannot get into Vivaldi. Or am I wrong about this ?
In another thread somebody wrote that there is a workaround.
Each time I start Vivaldi after having changed bookmarks in firefox or chromium (and synced them with eversync), I would have to delete all bookmarks, then clicking on eversync in Vivaldi.
Vivaldi will then download the bookmarks which are stored on eversync-server and this will not crash Vivaldi.I already tested it a few minutes ago and it works.

@mib2berlin ,
strange.
I am writing this comment in chromium-browser.
Deleted several bookmarks, then clicked on eversync.Started Vivaldi , clicked on eversync ... and Vivaldi did not crash, but the bookmarks did sync correctly. The deleted ones are gone.
I don't know why, but I guess that deleting the bookmarks including the waste (Papierkorb) and then downloading all bookmarks from eversync-server is responsible for it.
