Rename Tabs
-
@Pesala I have a suggestion, which I see would be really good, to me at least
when combining tabs, after getting tabs under one main tab, I will have the option to change the name of the main tab.

That is already available. One can rename tab stacks, but not individual tabs.

Thanks....

Hey guys, any info or idea what happened to this request? Looks like it is constantly ignored and that there is none progress at all. This is very annoying because I need this so damn often. I still need to use an extension/script...but that is not what a lot of the users wants. I can't imagine that it could so difficult to implement?! Or am I wrong?
-
@jcgerhard With 4,425 feature requests, and a small team, those needed by few users or difficult to implement may have to wait for a long time. Wherever you see that a feature is tagged as In Progress, it may get done this year rather than next.
-
+1, I'd love to see this implemented.

@rafaelvega Vote for the first post if you haven't already done so. (Voting again will remove your vote).

This is a quick JS solution, just enter the new tab name into the address bar and then click the active tab.
setInterval(function() { document.querySelector('div.tab.active').addEventListener('click',function() { document.querySelector('div.tab.active > div > span.title').innerHTML = document.querySelector('input.UrlBar-UrlField.url.vivaldi-addressfield.uifocusstop').value; });},10000);

This is now doable with Command Chains, and you can then use them with QC, keyboard shortcut or other gesture.
Add a new command chain called "Rename Tab" with the following action:
- Open Link in Current Tab
javascript:(function()%7Bdocument.title=prompt('Rename Tab',document.title)||document.title%7D)()
Shall I mark this feature request as complete, or is there something additional that is required?
- Open Link in Current Tab
-
@lonm This command chain doesn't permanently rename the tab, which is what I would expect the feature request to do.

Why can't this be a feature in the context menu...why do we need to know how to use some weird code to do it? I can't even figure out how to use this code. When I paste into my address bar, I just get a google search results page for the code.
-
@msangeld This request is a niche power user feature, so this code is provided for anyone who wants to set up a custom command as this feature might not get implemented soon.
I appreciate that it might not be easy to use if you are not familiar with the code.
If it is not working, make sure that the
javascript:
part is still there when you paste it, sometimes it gets removed. -
If you want to permanently rename the tab, look this post:

@barbudo2005 Thank you, that helps me greatly
-
@pesala You mention that there is a way to Rename a Tab Stack in the Tab Context menu – How does one do that? I cannot find an option to Create a name for a Tab Stack.
-
- If using two-level stacks, right-click on the first level
- If using accordion stacks, collapse the stack

Thanks for that, @barbudo2005. How do I get to the menu you show in that post? I have the script installed on TamperMonkey, and there's nothing like it that I see. Thanks.
-
You are right there is no menu now:
Put an * in the settings of the script:
And now you get the button for menu:
PD: I think the explanation is this:
A safety factor of Tampermonkey.
It is no longer possible to use:

@barbudo2005 Thank you. I appreciate your explanation. I added the User Includes and now I get the menu via the context menu. But it doesn't seem to be user friendly to me, in terms of what elements can be used in the rename.
I will stick with what I use, as it suits my abilities very nicely:

Thanks again.

I added my +1 to this post since I'd really like this to be a native feature without extensions or javascript. But was worried when I noticed this thread is tagged "WILL NOT DO". Does that remove all hope that this feature will be added or is that tag more of a "not anytime soon but not impossible"
