I refuse to believe that this was marked as WILL NOT DO and was not implemented. So, I am going to ask in here if I can, is there a way for me to password protect my different profiles. I don't really see the point in the profiles feature if there is not a way for me to properly isolate the instances. And with the nice was I am greeted, with all profiles on display, it'd like to think by now this has been implemented and profiles isn't just glorified workspaces.

Commenting to agree with Jrograms. It's strange that this was marked as "will not do." This seems like a critical security feature, even on a secure, encrypted device.

A related feature request over bug tracker was set to "Will not do" by dev team.

I think that a masterpassword does not protect against someone installing malware by USB stick or Bluetooth for password stealing.

Masterpassword, which locks profile after a while protects against curious siblings/parents/etc. or peers having physical access 😉

Alright, just come here with a same idea. How to open a new (same) request?
I supposed one of the main principles of Vivaldi is to give a lot of options and user selects what he wants?

Let's say I live in a student dorm. There is one other person using the computer besides me. Neither of us wants to have different Microsoft accounts on the computer. Naturally, we have different profiles in the Vivaldi browser, and accordingly, different saved passwords.
It turns out that I can see all his passwords, bookmarks, etc. just like he can see mine.
Why do I have to use other security measures that are suggested in the comments in this thread, such as: a partition encrypted with VeraCrypt, creating a second Microsoft account, or archiving my profile folder (the last method is also too long)? After all, the Vivaldi Team claims that it is one of the most powerful browsers in terms of functionality.

People have different life situations in which they may need either a device password protection function or a master password protection function. I believe that one of the multifunctional browsers should provide such an opportunity to users.

Firefox has a choice between two security options - using a device password and using a master password. You can also check both of these boxes.

I'm not asking the already small team of developers to immediately add the ability to use a master password, but I don't understand at all why this topic was tagged "WILL NOT DO", given its necessity and the number of likes it has collected.

@splank Did you notice that this thread is tagged as WILL NOT DO?

I do not remember what reason was given, but that is why you should look for other solutions.

@Pesala Yes, I noticed the thread is tagged with that tag, I even wrote about it in the last paragraph if you read my post at all. But that doesn't stop me from expressing my opinion, does it?

I completely disagree with "WILL NOT DO". There is a good reason why e.g. Firefox uses a master password. Please add it!

Another example: Bitwarden (and all password vaults I know) uses a master password, even for the browser extension. Following your argumentation, this is not necessary. Of course it is!

It certainly has a lot of support. I wonder why they wouldn't add it
