Vertical Reader Mode - Vivaldi browser Snapshot 1.14.1072.3
-
@steffie: No need to investigate. The issue has already been fixed internally.
-
1.1.4.1064.3: no problem
1.1.4.1072.3: problem as shown in the pic -
@christoph142: Oddly enough, when I installed the snapshot this morning, the browser was opening in a semi-maximized state. This afternoon, the browser is opening fully maximized every time. Go figure...
-
@michael_from_germany: Forgive me, but I can't see what the problem is. Your pic isn't really explaining what the issue is, so can you describe the problem, please.
Going to the site, it seems to be working for me and I don't get any dialogue boxes pop up. However, I say seems, because I don't really know what you see as wrong. More info would be nice.
Running the latest 32-bit snapshot on Windows 10 (64-bit).

@pesala:
I was looking for it, but it seems that the Vertical reading Option is related to the country.At least, didn't found it on the settings.
-
Regarding this launching maximized thing: It seems Vivaldi now launches in the last mode viewed. If you closed the browser in maximized view, it will launch in maximized view. if you closed the browser in a resized window, it will launch in a resized window. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is new behavior.
-
No access to address bar for extensions? IPvfoo is not working!
-
@chenyf: While I kind of concur as I mostly read horizontal text, some books (especially novels) from Taiwan read vertically.
-
Is this intended or a bug? The vertical option is only available when the Vivaldi interface language is changed to, say, Traditional Chinese.
I prefer to have the interface in English but still want to occasionally read vertically. Thank you.

Not to the country but to the language settings.
- Switch the UI language to Japanese
- visit http://www.nhk.or.jp/radionews/
Switch reader mode on and click on the gear symbol and you will see the setting.

@gwen-dragon Thanks Lilo. Unfortunately it didn't work for me; this new SS still can't stream Netflix, coz it still fails on H.264/MP4 at https://www.quirksmode.org/html5/tests/video.html
Error occurs:

Despite those apparent failures, when i check /home/steffie/.local/lib/vivaldi i see that the version of libffmpeg.so now therein, IS a newer version than what was there immediately before running those commands; now is 3.3 MB [was 2.6 MB] & is dated today [was August last year].
Next i tried to update Widevine, but again error occurs:
[steffie@Lappy-XPS15 Widevine (needed for Netflix etc; sourced with Ruario's script)]$ sudo bash latest-widevine.sh --2018-01-18 16:11:58-- https://dl.google.com/linux/direct/google-chrome-stable_current_x86_64.rpm Loaded CA certificate '/etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt' Resolving dl.google.com... 216.58.206.142, 2a00:1450:4009:811::200e Connecting to dl.google.com|216.58.206.142|:443... connected. So then, in case my version of Ruari's bash script was superseded, i downloaded the current version from https://gist.github.com/ruario/3c873d43eb20553d5014bd4d29fe37f1, then:
[steffie@Lappy-XPS15 Widevine (needed for Netflix etc; sourced with Ruario's script)]$ sudo bash latest-widevine.sh [sudo] password for steffie: The latest Widevine (1.4.8.1008) is already installed [steffie@Lappy-XPS15 Widevine (needed for Netflix etc; sourced with Ruario's script)]$
It seems i shall need to do my Lappy Netflix streaming with Stable not SS, til at least the next SS arrives...

@steffie
Hi, I expand and copy ffmpeg.so from Gwen manually to /lib/vivaldi and Netflix work as expected. Don´t touch Widevine.Opensuse Leap 42.3 x86_64
CPU Intel T4200 4 GB
GPU Intel GN 965
xf86-video-intel 2.99.917-6.1
KDE Plasma 5.8.7

@chenyf said in Vertical Reader Mode - Vivaldi browser Snapshot 1.14.1072.3:
Chinese people don't really read anything vertically nowadays
Well, some other languages support vertical writing systems too - and even if Vivaldi only makes reading more comfortable for a tiny fraction of Chinese, Japanese etc. users, it might still be substantial amount in absolute numbers
-
I run windows 10 and it really took almost 30 min for my tabs to load. There where no network activity according to the developer tools.

@edgein
Hi, can you add your system specs and how many tabs you try to open at Vivaldi start, please?
Vivaldi start in a few seconds on my old laptop.Cheers, mib
-
@edgein With 36 tabs on Win10, mine is taking 3-5 sec depending on opening conditions. We need to know more about your hardware, your OS, your extensions, your security software, and how many tabs you run. Also, if you run a huge number of bookmarks or a massive history file, this can affect things.

In latest Linux mint and vivaldi-snapshot says error in youtube.
"お使いのブラウザは使用可能な動画フォーマットを認識できません。"
"ここをクリックして、HTML5の動画についてのよくある質問をご覧ください。"
This error message is Japanese so i can't say the correct message in English.
so i paste it as is.
this message seems to be vivaldi's HTML5 is incompatible with youtube.
URL is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KurD5DnqH8o -
-
@gort I have more than this Tab open. So I think, the failure message doesn't refer to the webseite of the news magazine "Der Spiegel".

@mib2berlin i have tried that too bit still doesn't work
