Sync is here, help us test it – Vivaldi browser Snapshot 1.14.1030.3

Congratulations on sync ... That's been a big one. Personally I will not be an early adopter but wait till people report very few issues. I have a lot of bookmarks and suspect they might be a challenge for the system.
-
@g_bartsch Then backup your profile or the bookmarks file in it, then you won't have to worry, as you can put them back if they get corrupted.
-
After a bit of turbulence this a.m. (no sync), tried again this p.m. and it works!
Hopping over then to MX-Linux 17 b3 (dual boot with Windows 10), managed to install, entered id + p.w. and sync is working just wonderfully!!!Congratulations Vivaldi!!
This was a long time coming and it is nice to see you finally attain this long aspired goal.Boy! It feels like (well almost) like going to the moon for the first time!
-
@gort Thank you. That will be the plan when the time comes. I currently regularly back them up in disk images and before snapshot updates. They are too valuable to lose.
-
First of all, this is wonderful news! Thank you for your hard work.
Question: What is "remote sessions" in the sync'ed items? (vivaldi://settings/sync/ )
-
@ryofurue Those are sessions from other instances of the browser, with which the current instance is syncing.

Now Sync login works. I'll test tomorrow on my work computer, I'll do a clean Vivaldi install on it.
Works perfectly at work also! Thanks Vivaldi crew!

Aha! It's "Session" as in "File" > "Open Saved Session". Is that right? Thank you for your help.
I was afraid that "remote sessions" might mean cookies that record statuses of transactions with webservers. I don't want to sync cookies because I want to maintain different login accounts for same sites depending on which Vivaldi instance I use.
-
@ryofurue A session is just a list of tabs pertaining to a particular time the browser is used. If you sync History and Remote Sessions, you can visit sites you found while using one of your other machines. It's just the URL and the record of when you were there.

Like some people said, Vivaldi has a 1px border now - even maximized, but only after first starting Vivaldi.
I'm using the pannel toggle on the left, and it's really annoying now. If I move the cursor to the left border, it won't register the click.

@wladisha: Let me try to reiterate... I always start Vivaldi maximized. But since the new build the "maximized" Vivaldi is not actualy maximized, but has a 1px border and spacing above tabs (which I don't usually have). Once I drag the window and maximize it again, the problems disappear. It's very annoying.
-
In the kubuntu 17.10 "Set as Default" button not working.
-
@wladisha I have the same problem, this bug comes and go with the different versions.
-
I thought synchronization would be the main point of version 2.0
I can not wait for a stable version.
-
@julien_picalausa does the sync engine include the extension's api storage.sync ?
-
Great...A Much Awaited & much needed function...now i am testing it...Hope to have this a pleasurable experience...Keep it up Team Vivaldi

Sync is now working through Vivaldi servers and there seems to be some active element involved in there.
Are there plans to extend Sync to allow for private online storage locations i.e. OneDrive, Google Drive or DropBox? -
@fang I would think the main point of version 2.0 would be the integrated email client.
