I made a huge thumbnail pack ...
-
@jrasmussen Thank you so much, jrasmussen! And I'm glad your happy with your vet logo the logo for your schools. And thank you for the upvotes too!
I hope they're as professional as can be!
-
@ncristian Thank you for these! These look great, and I'm going to keep some of them like Anandtech, and Andrea Galeazzi. For some others like 4chan, diretta.it, Gentoo, La Repubblica, and UserBenchmark, I made some for as well, for some changing small things like the scaling, and for others like diretta.it, having a new icon for the thumbnail. So look for:
sd_4chan2
sd_gentoo
sd_userbenchmark
sd_diretta_it
sd_larepubblicahttps://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0BwcOkwtCjr51T0psOHJXb0M4VmM?usp=sharing
For the VNDB, I wasn't sure if you were basing the thumbnail off of vndb.com, or vndb.org. Are they the same website? If it's .com, I can probably make a good one off of that, as they have a good logo already.
-
@jrasmussen Done! Look for: sd_wplc
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0BwcOkwtCjr51T0psOHJXb0M4VmM?usp=sharing
Any other sites?
-
@jrasmussen I remember many versions ago(not sure when) they first got the Gif for the Vivaldi Community site, but for the first year or so of Vivaldi's existence, they changed it to a GIF. I could see if I can find that old thumbnail they used to have for it.
-
@jrasmussen Alright, so I went and downloaded Vivaldi 1.0, the first version, on a live Linux boot on USB so I didn't mess up my current install. Then dug up the original static thumbnail they had before they changed it to the GIF and then uploaded it onto my folder for V's stock thumbs. So look for: sd_vivaldi_community.png
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0BwcOkwtCjr51ZVNOX0U0SFhjbzA?usp=sharing
-
@ncristian Ah okay. Well, I looked for the logo, and I wasn't able to find a good one, so I took a snapshot of a picture of it, and I made one of that. Let me know if it's good enough. Look for: sd_vndb
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0BwcOkwtCjr51T0psOHJXb0M4VmM?usp=sharing
-
@jrasmussen Done! I don't think there was an exact logo for KDE Store, so I used a modified one of the KDE logo. I think the KDE logo itself I made is very good. Maybe some KDE users like @Gwen-Dragon and @Steffie might like it as well.
Look for the following:sd_privateinternetaccess
sd_kde
sd_kdestore
sd_thewirecutter
sd_thesweethomehttps://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0BwcOkwtCjr51T0psOHJXb0M4VmM?usp=sharing
Enjoy!

@D0J0P Thanks, but yeah - nah. You might recall my initial disinterest in custom thumbnails, which was briefly replaced by tepid agreement that they might be useful? Well since then the disinterest returned, so i've not lifted a finger to pursue this [& am not actually bothering to read any of the associated threads; only got to this one now coz of your mention].
In fairness though, a lot* of my disinterest is unrelated to the actual genuine utility of this feature [or not]. It's rather more a side-effect of my current geek-focus being less on V itself but more on researching & testing a [now serious] possibility of migrating my OS from Maui to openSUSE Tumbleweed KDE. In this project Vivaldi has continued to be simply magnificent; its tab-stacking, pane-tiling, bookmark management & Panel Notes have truly assisted my research process -- Vivaldi is just so damn good.
*A lot, but not all. I did indeed briefly experiment, but the moment i found that the onus was on me not Vivaldi to suitably size any putative custom thumbnail, was the exact moment i utterly lost interest. When in future V automates this basic function, my interest might pick up again.
Anyway, it seems that you are putting in a huge effort that many of our community are really appreciating, so i heartily congratulate you for that generosity. Onya!!

@ncristian If you want, I can try again with a simpler one, and try to take a photo of the site itself, but I think yours is really good.
-
@jrasmussen Done! Look for the following:
sd_alternet
sd_commondreams
sd_madison
sd_losangelestimes
sd_mcclatchydc
sd_motherjones
sd_thenation
sd_therealnews
sd_wisconsineye
sd_wispoliticshttps://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0BwcOkwtCjr51T0psOHJXb0M4VmM?usp=sharing
-
@jrasmussen Sorry about that! Doesn't look like it went through. It should be good now. Try again: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0BwcOkwtCjr51T0psOHJXb0M4VmM?usp=sharing
-
@Sijera Done! Look for the following:
sd_majorgeeks
sd_neowin
sd_snapfiles (I couldn't find a good photo for this one, so it'll have to be the logo from the site itself)
sd_filehippo
sd_nationalgeographic
sd_livetennisranking
sd_airdroidhttps://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0BwcOkwtCjr51T0psOHJXb0M4VmM?usp=sharing
Are there any other sites you would like thumbnails for?
-
@Steffie I think I do recall your disinterest in custom thumbs. No problem, the thumbs are always there if you want. They're sized to 440 x 360, which is the same as the stock thumbnails that Vivaldi makes. But yes, I can't wait to see what automatic-generated thumbs bring. I remember them from when I first tried Opera.
-
Here are some thumbnails that I've made.
@D0J0P feel free to add any that you want to your thumbnail pack. It's better to have a master list than a bunch of different links. There might be a few duplicates.
-
@ugly Wow, these look great! I'll have to look at them all and check to see how they compare to the official logos, but I'll let you know when I'm done that. With 41 great thumbs, I don't know how long that'll take, but I'll check it out. Thanks!
-
@ugly Done! I took some time to try to finish looking at as many of them as possible. Almost 10 of them I didn't include because they were either already covered by Vivaldi's stock thumbs, like ARS Technica, or I couldn't tell what that website was by the thumbnail. So without further ado, look for the following:
sd_addic7ed
sd_camelcamelcamel
sd_Canlii
sd_circle
sd_coinbase
sd_couchpotato
sd_gnoosic
sd_isthereanydeal
sd_lifehacker
sd_mediastinger
sd_linuxmint
sd_mythtv
sd_nhl
sd_pfmonkey
sd_protonmail (1,2,3 and so on, as these were done a long time ago)
sd_questrade
sd_rage3d
sd_redflagdeals
sd_sabnzbd
sd_slickdeals
sd_tsn
sd_tsn2
sd_tv.com
sd_usenetcrawler
sd_canadianbitcoins
sd_canadiancouchpotato
sd_fakemailgenerator
sd_gemini
sd_gigabyte
sd_netgear
sd_privateinternetaccess
sd_radarr
sd_xe
sd_yifystubtitlesA lot of these I either edited or created entirely new ones for them whenever the resolution was low. There's also a bunch I had already made like NHL, Linux Mint, Protonmail(about 8 of them I believe), Private Internet Access, and LifeHacker.
Good job on these, by the way! You're really good at making thumbnails, so thanks for the contributions!

@D0J0P I just build off what you had done. I got the proper sizing from the original icons you made, and tried to get things close to the general look you had been doing. I wouldn't have been able to do any if you hadn't started things off.
It's not that difficult to do once you get the hang of it. I usually grab the logo from the website, if it scales well. Sometimes a Twitter feed is a good source. I try to pull a colour from the page, usually the colour that is under the logo icon. Sometimes I'll use the colour that Vivaldi changes the tab colour to.
As a personal preference, I tried to avoid using a white background or a black background to get more variety. Sometimes it led to getting some funky colour combinations.
-
Thank you very much for these excellent graphics - they make my Speed Dial look so much better. Is there any chance you could do one for Pinboard, or have I missed one?
-
@ugly Looks good! And that's pretty much how I do it as well. I usually get the logo from the site's FB page, Twitter page, sometimes G+ page, and if it looks good, then the Google Play Store as well, which is usually easy to scale.
I try to get a non-white background as well if I can help it, but sometimes I'll have to go with it. If there was no color that came in the picture's background, I'll do the same by picking a background color from the site, to try to make everything look as official as possible. Sometimes I'll have no choice but to go with white though.
You also did a pretty good job of scaling everything! Thanks again!
