Vivaldi makes History
-
Does it have multiple rows bookmarks bar now, please?
-
@Juris3D: Not yet. That's not a high priority at the moment, and will require a ton of coding.
-
@ayespy: Thanks for answer. Well, then I am still with Firefox + Roomy Bookmarks Toolbar plugin.
-
@mossman: the point is, why bother creating features that won't be used regardless of their usefulness because the core features are missing so the browser itself is far from being usable
-
Very usefull and helpfull thing. Thanks.
-
@pafflick: since the core features are missing fancy gadgets like this won't change a thing for now, they will matter when core is ready
-
@zakius -- You seem to be letting zealotry obscure facts & judgement. There's rather a lot of happy V users, including obviously this community, who would energetically dispute your evidence-free assertions of "won't be used", "core features are missing" & "the browser itself is far from being usable". Maybe we are simply all stupid & with low expectations? Or maybe there's an antithetical interpretation...
-
@zakius -- Here's your hat, here's your coat, don't let the door bang on you on your way out.
-
could we get download feature improved so resume actually work, and have queuing. Download feature in other browsers haven't improved for at least 10 years
-
@steffie: or maybe they simply lied to us and themselves saying they wanted to bring back Opera: the browser for POWERusers, and actually they wanted to just make something that will be the same thing as chropera: another skin for chromium that brings some gadgets but doesn't make any difference after all
-
I see that V. is shaping nicely so far i noticed that loading has not been improved it's still a bit slow, ABP icon is blurred, Slovenian lang. is not yet done, i don't have time to help so don't ask me and that's about it.
-
@zakius -- Yeah, right...
-
@zakius What core features are you talking about? I've been using this browser for months and I haven't missed any basic functionality. There are some bugs that I'd like to see gone, but it hasn't been bothering me that much so that I would even consider switching to another browser.
I know some people keep on complaining that there's still no Sync (or whatever the feature they think is the most important), but usually, such comments are made out of a sheer ignorance, by people who barely know anything about programming or software development. I know you can't blame them for that. Not everyone is a power user (or geek) like some of us, after all...
But the problem is when they refuse to acknowledge the fact, that developing a "fully functional" (as some would say) product like a web browser takes either a huge amount of time or a huge amount of money. If you've got a couple of millions to spare, then you can just hire enough people to finish the product before it ever makes it to the public. But if your resources are limited, you have to balance things wisely - one way is to release the "unfinished" product to gather some audience to support it, while constantly working on new improvements (it's similar to games & other software released as "early access" for example).
-
@pafflick: Due to a problem with the delta upgrade process for 1.8, we have temporarily disabled it. Delta upgrades will return in the next release.
-
@pafflick For what people regard as core features of Opera, just look at the feature requests that you and I keep posting: Warning on exit if a download is running, customising toolbars and menus, more speed dial columns, custom thumbnails for speed dials, etc.
Any one of these would have been received with more satisfaction than the (rather gimmicky) advanced history tab.
-
@maximumfish: The pop-up window wasn't ready for final release. It will however, still be there in future snapshots towards 1.9 as far as I know
-
@Pesala I'm aware of that. It's just that I wouldn't call any of them "core" - even if I would welcome them with a little more enthusiasm than the new history tab or the Hue lamps integration...
The browser is supposed to allow you to (safely) browse the Internet. That's the core. Anything else is just "features", "gadgets" or "gimmicks". Some feature might be useless to me, but for someone else, it might be the reason why they switched over to Vivaldi. You can't please everyone at once (especially now in the times when people grew so impatient and egocentric)...
-
@zakius I still don't know what "core" things you think are missing...!?
Your first post here made it sound like you thought they were building a new Presto-type rendering engine - but that's literally never been the plan.
-
@dLeon -- And i "love" it that it seems every 2nd or 3rd newbie here is absolutely certain that they are the first & only person who has ever discovered there's not a public sync yet, & coz that's the worst crime in the world they have no time to waste on pointless trivia like actually searching the blogs & fora to find the already-existing 1,830,168 angry posts demanding sync comes right now or they'll hold their breath til they're blue, &/or instantly leave V & never come back, so instead they start their own separate new thread on exactly the same topic & say the same things in the same unpleasant way. It's so refreshing to witness human nobility of spirit in action.
