Feature request - cache settings

  • It would be great if there can be a option to set folder for temporary internet files and possibility to limit size. I don't know how dificult it is and if it is possible to do it with Chromium. But I like this feature from old Opera - option to set temporary files into temp folder instead of the browser profile folder. The best can be possibility to set memory cache only as was in old Opera. I understand, this is different engine and you depends of the possibilities what are offered by engine...

  • I'm not familiar with this feature in old Opera but would "private mode" be comparable? Or is the ability to specify the folder what you want?

  • No, it doesn't mean private mode.
In old opera you were able specify folder where cache is stored. It's comfotable to target it into TEMP folder and clear all trash files from whole system at once.
Other possibilities were set size of the disk cache and size of the memory cache. Opera uses memory cache to speed up access . You were able to set memory cache only with specific size - all temporary internet files were stored in memory, when you close program, all is deleted. It speeds up Opera without necesary to clear cache.

  • Hello team,
This is an "old" request by now but still valid and quite standard feature - anything on the book ?

    Use cases:

    • ability to disable cache altogether for security/embedded
    • ability to set a small cach for embedded applications
    • on slow connections ability to increase cache size (understanding the performance impact of a bigger lookup directory is acceptable price for bigger cache able to speed up network and save BW)
    • ability to move cache to a fast or dedicated location (ramdisk etc.)

  • +1

  • While it would be great to be able to set cache related options from within Vivaldi, you can already do so using command line options which were inherited from chrome:
–disk-cache-size specifies the maximum size for the disk cache in bytes
–disk-cache-dir specifies the directory for the disk cache

A detailed explanation can be found at the following site: http://www.ghacks.net/2010/10/19/how-to-change-google-chromes-cache-location-and-size/

    Very important feature!
    e.g. Firefox cache settings:

  • The switches, which are a terribly primitive way of going about things (thanks, Google), do not apply when the browser starts in some other way besides you clicking your shortcut. To cover that base, you have to delve into the Registry….
