A historic snapshot – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1.8.770.9
-
@Dovelove: Try the standalone install. See if it runs.
-
Killed all my passwords, bookmarks, lost path to all extensions. Not a happy camper with my Mac third time this has happened
-
@nedhamson: Mac users do complain of this more often than anyone else - but it doesn't happen to the majority of users, and still no one knows why it happens. What version of OSX are you on?
-
@Ayespy You can check if my problem really happens, I reported the bug, but I wonder if it happens to another user.
-
I knew they were up to no-good and i could never have guessed that it would be this good!
Thanks for the best snapshot yet Ruari! -
WOW!

Very excited with the new release.
You have made me to go the history page too often with this release. :))
At last no more refreshing of the page to check new release for sometime now. After initial happiness I closed the browser and reopend. Something unexpected happened.
1.8.770.9 (Official Build) (32-bit)
I have updated to the newest snapshot from my old one. Everything looked fine. After I close the browser reopen to my surprise all my bookmarks, settings, theme (dark) are gone. I end up with a new screen asking me to select the customary questions like select tab theme etc. But among lot of changes I made in the old Vivaldi Snapshot the only one retained was speeddial. I only had 3 speed dials. Vivaldi, Vivaldi Community and TED. All these 3 retained. Except this all my changes (to settings, theme are gone). -
@nellaiseemai: Are you on OSX?

Very pun-y change-logs for this historic build. :p Anyway, thanks those bug fixes really refine Vivaldi experience so far.

****A historic snapshot – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1.8.770.9
This is a historic snapshot for us because we re-wrote the history feature. We also fixed almost 40 bugs and upgraded the Chromium backend....****
That moment just gotted Historic indeeedd... you just re-wrote the browsing habits... the History will not be the same again... because you can go Back to the Past to see your browsing habit with wonderful INFOGRAFIK and planning new journey of tommorow!
-
@ayespy: I am on Windows 7 32 bit SP1.
-
@pesala: just wondering, if you used Opera 12 mostly for email, why not use Opera M2 standalone instead? Image context menu, there is extension for Vivaldi.. well the rest you are just saving few 1-2 keystroke/mouseclick from equivalent native function.
-
@whizzwr: I don't know about Pesala, but I use Opera12 for email because it can be designated as MAPI client on a Windows computer and Opera Mail cannot. Further, Opera12 has ALL of the features of M2, and Opera Mail does not.
-
wow very nice, thanks a lot, this is brilliant

Anyone know why I experience screen tearing when browsing the web on vivaldi? I'm using Linux Mint 18.1
-
@farblos: Happened again. This time I looked at the task manager and only 1.3 gigs were in use

For some reason I get asked if I want to save passwords, when this is disabled in settings. Resetting that check mark cures this behavior for the session only. On next browser restart, the asking returns.
This is very annoying. I hope they fix it asap. -
@finneko: Is this real? There is no option to edit message?

I don't think so. I doubt very much if it will change anyone's browsing habits. The novelty of analysing one's browsing habits will soon wear off, and the Advanced History Tab will soon remain largely unused.
There were many upvotes in the feature requests threads for a History Panel, but no one even thought they needed to analyse their browsing history. They just wanted to be able to search it, and find previously opened pages.
I suspect that there are more users who want to delete their browsing history on exit, or have an easy way to clear it (that is already available), than those who want to analyse it.
Personally, I don't need to be concerned about privacy — I just need to clear the cache and browsing data to save a bit of disk space because Vivaldi is installed on an 8 Gbyte encrypted virtual drive.
