A new snapshot and new forums - Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1.5.654.3
-
Just took a quick peak and it is lovely Ayespy!
Thanks to Vivaldi team for the hard work! -
You seem to be back, so I assume everything went as expected. Congrats on the new forum software
-
Well it's not lovely for me. Have i been banned? I've made 2 attempts to reply to the New Forum thread, but each time i get "ERROR
Post content was flagged as spam by Akismet.com". Unhappy. Ditto when i tried to create a new topic. Am feeling a bit victimised here… -
Wow! Thanks for all the work, folks!
The new forum looks nice so far and thank you for not wiping out the old occasionally problematic easysocial-dashboard and unity pages.
Old Issue: VB-22358
The last round of Windows 10 updates and the AMD video driver update fixed the problem I had with the 1.5.638.3 Vivaldi snapshot. The old snapshot doesn't freeze any more and none of the current snaps freeze.New issues:
For the last series of snapshots, dragging the current page to the Bookmark Bar creates a beautiful bookmark but the little ribbon outline icon in the Address Bar doesn't change to a red ribbon until you refresh the page or switch to another Tab and back.
Bug or a feature? The Panels for Bookmarks, Downloads and Notes all change to the Dark theme right on schedule. The clearly delineated Web Panels that I created and added to the Side Bar for History ( vivaldi://history/ ), XMarks, and YouTube keep the light theme and don't change.
The History Web Panel I created using the vivaldi://history/ address shows "Loading…" at the top of the panel when it's selected and it never changes.
The bookmark ribbon icons in my History panel and the ones on the History page off of the Start Page are all still the old pleasant shade of green instead of the new red.
The right-click option on the web panel tabs "Show Desktop version/Show Mobile Version" doesn't seem to work.

When the video player is in full screen, the left edge is gray. This happens in most players.

I know that was not directed at me but many of us have tried! On older machines I can't even get to Distros Chapeau and Susie to get to the install screen so please be patient..not all can afford the constant updating and monies it takes. A BIOS patch to run an SSD I finally learned won't let linux install. Dell abandoned updating the BIOS cause it was in between purchasing Alienware cycles so it's no mans land, F you customer.
I am lucky when I figure out what new hot laptop I want that will be compatibly and last at least as long as the one I have now I'll buy it. I have MANY PROGRAMS in farming and mapping that won't run on Linux at all and I don't know if WINE will run them at all …do you??
This all takes a GREAT DEAL OF TIME and parallel systems are a pain in the ??XX. After 30 years of daily changing it gets old and you would like something to last longer than the obsolete planned update cycle.Sorry I just thought I'd put another perspective on that remark sometimes there's' a difference between wants and needs. Not all just go to facebook, twitter, snapchat popular useless programs do actual business with CUSTOM small use programs.

" It's just YOU they are picking on you":roll:
Now you get to feel like I do many times when I'm the only one with the "problem". I take it the "new look" is mainly the indent that makes it easier to follow..correct me if I'm wrong.
-
Love the new look of the forum. Are you guys thinking of updating the blog with the same aesthetics, or will it stay like this?
-
Your points are of course entirely valid, & i don't for a moment wish to imply that the platform change is trivial [as one who herself made the change from Windows to Linux spanning 2013-2016 (comprising the initial Linux VMs when still running Win to begin to learn about L, then progressing to dual-boot, then fully reformatting to Linux but with some Windows VMs, to only within the last month finally cracking the final piece of the puzzle so i now never need to use my Win VM at all now] – i'm entirely aware that such change IS a Big Deal. It's not for everyone [yet], but i'm simply interested in informing people that sometimes they might have more options than they initially thought. Wrt my reply specifically to Lucio, i thought it might provide some relief from the OCD burden, which i'm sure must be very challenging.

Haha, yes, i know! It's times like this that i particularly enjoy the old saying "Just because your're paranoid doesn't mean they not still really out to get you!".
-
Dragging the active tab, via its address bar lhs icon, into the Bookmarks panel is still broken, as per now several SSs. After dragging, the new bookmark only has the http address, rather than the actual page name [like it used to have, some time ago]. I think i've seen others post about this too, but if so i don't know the Bug#.

So far as I know, there's no plan for the blog at this time.
-
Had something similar happen to me a couple of times. First time, I filled out the online forms to have a couple of anti-spam services un-flag me. Second time, I actually had my internet provider change my IP address. You can probably tell your VPN to change yours. Looks like someone may have used it for nefarious purposes in the past.
-
Have to say that I don't like the new look of the forum AT ALL.
Sorry.
-
Yup. Will fix that.
-
I can login here in the blog but not anymore in the forum, it just says
Internal Error.
Oops! Looks like something went wrong!

Email takeneven if I logout here and login after pushing the Forum button.
edit: and my avatar in here seems missing, while it's visible from my profile. Something went lost. I had it fixed only by removing current avatar and resetting it from the photo album.

Some ideas:
In one of the earlier builds you could drag a tab into a new window to move it there. Now you have to drag them to the tab bar, which can be very finicky. Often I end up with a tab stack instead of a separate tab.
Also, regarding dragging tabs out of a tab stack, the little tab buttons on top of the stack are way to small to be really usable. So people who are not using tab previews when hovering in the tab bar will probably never be able to use that function comfortably if it stays that way.
However, the tab previews also have a downside compared to the tab buttons. You cannot select multiple tabs by clicking on them with control held down. It would be great, if that was possible. -
Oh, I'm disappointed we're still on Joomla for the blog, I thought you were going to change to WordPress, it has been confirmed by a Vivaldi rep some weeks ago.
I have many issues with Joomla, I have to re-login here every single time I close the browser (only happens with this blog), edits are unreliable, votes are too slow, replies are quite unreliable too (example: https://vivaldi.net/en-US/teamblog/168-a-new-snapshot-and-new-forums-vivaldi-browser-snapshot-1-5-654-3#!/ccomment-comment=23538 – I clicked on "Reply" of the parent post).

Now I can't even LOG OUT
AUTHENTICATION ERROR !
Attention:
Something went wrong during the authentication process. Please try signing in again.wtf, during a log out?

Am really getting annoyed now. Am still blocked with same msg even on alternative VPN IP, AND even if i close VPN & just use my ISP, "naked". My tests imply the fault is not with ISP [else VPN should have worked], & not VPN [else ISP should have worked]. Exasperated.
