Reader view access options - Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1.5.644.7

Also if you open an external link and have several Vivaldi windows and not focusing first window.

It's not matter of 56K modems, it's matter of people connected with 3g/4g, which are almost always on limited data bundle.
Also all the download on server side makes an huge traffic, and server traffic is on limited data bundle as well.
A different scale bundle, but also a different scale of money.

So that's what it means. I guess I can understand, but the black background is so square when you hover over it. It definitely didn't look like what it used to before, where it was more like the logo itself.
With the way it is without hovering over it, I think it would look a bit better with a small drop shadow behind it.
I keep seeing the V logo look different in different places. The main logo is slightly rounded at the corners, is slanted, and has a trail of 2 other squares behind it, with drop shadows behind the V. It looks good and hi-res. But in other parts of the browser, like the taskbar, it looks completely squared, low-res and fuzzy. It's kind of inconsistent and strange that a low-res version of the logo is used this way when there is already the hi-res better looking version. I think the logo should be updated in all parts, like the browser shortcut icons, their banners, vivaldi.com and .net websites, etc. Everywhere for the good looking version seen here: https://cnet4.cbsistatic.com/hub/i/r/2016/04/05/421ab095-e167-4457-be25-acd176ed0896/resize/570xauto/9307bc52245d5d8189deea23263d7546/vivaldi-browser-logo-icon.jpg
And for the forum website, it should be the same hi-res version, but inverted with a red V and white background.

Also many many thanks for dragging over the trash icon to erase tab!
Hmm, this does not work very well here. I have tabs on the left. Not able to delete a tab even once by dragging it to the trash icon. Tried to do it with tabs on the top. Successful once, but most attempts failed. And there is no feedback to the user when you should drop the tab.

Yeah, a really nice feature, it works in many browsers except EDGE and Opera 12, afaik
-
OK, though there are myriad other programs on an OS that would cause much greater bandwidth use (like OS updates), so little Vivaldi is a bit of a drop in the bucket for a user. A more effective solution would be something OS-centric, like using the metered connection feature in Windows. (btw, is cellular really that common on a PC?!)
But that aside, I like delta updates, just not the implementation. Surely there's a better way of going about the update than a) popping up a window, and especially b) what happens after the browser closes.
As I speculated in the original message, why can't the time-consuming work be staged elsewhere so that it can take place while the browser is still open and you're not waiting on it? That way, when you do tell the browser to restart, there isn't that ungainly progress bar that seems to last much longer than it actually does.
-
Hum, only tested here with tabs on top. Anyway, it only works for me if I drag the tabs above or bellow the tab bar first, triggering the 'new window dragging mode'. If I drag sideways only as in 'tab reordering mode' it doesn't allow dragging to the trash icon

Guys, gpu is not working properly again, or so it seems….
On vivaldi://gpu last message:

GpuProcessHostUIShim: The GPU process exited normally. Everything is okay. There is a problem with videos.. It says not supported.. Even for imdb videos that always used to play..

1. Play a YouTube Video
2. Drag it and drop it on the page to open in a new window
3. Right-click on the tab to move it back to the first windowResult: Video is still playing, but the tab is blank.
No such problem if the tab is dragged and dropped back to the first window.
32-bit Vivaldi on Windows 10 64-bit
(VB-22471) Video in detached window blank when moved back to source window

Glad to see keystrokes working now, e.g., Ctrl-T for new tab.
Upon opening after the install (x32 version), Malwarebytes threw up a malicious site or such message for s2pops.club. Never seen it before. Don't know if it was related to my home page, which is Yahoo or something else (Win 10).
And now another as I type, redirectv.com (or re-redirectv.com). Both point to vivaldi.exe as the process, fwiw. Only open site is Yahoo.com

This has been known and reported since the first time tab dragging became available
-
Probably (and I insist on the fact I really don't know), probably because to allow drag and drop between windows, the windows have to share a common basis of knowledge : the tabs open in each window, the cookies available, the status of the webviews etc. But when opening a private window, you really open a window that doesn't share anything, that knows nothing of the other windows, nor share what is loaded in the window to the others. That's what we want from a private window, keep our stuff private. But it means that DnD isn't possible.
-
Neither I think
You have to keep in mind that some users won't go around a software to look at everything, and fiddle with every setting etc. And for those users, the icon looked like… well, an icon, and nothing more. That's why a bit of design was added for it to look more like a button than just an icon, and only as a test. We'll see if it helps -
Yep, the reasons for delta updates are vast. There are more 56K users out there than you may think. More 3G users too. More 1Mb DSL users. But delta updates wasn't really implemented for them, even if indeed, it will help them tremendously.
It was implemented for Vivaldi.
In a previous comment in the blog, I estimated that the cost saved on bandwidth alone just with this implementation of delta only for Windows would be enough to hire a full time engineer. When you are the size of Vivaldi, it really matters. But indeed, I agree that the implementation could be a lot better. But delta updates are quite young in Vivaldi, they will evolve, and be better eventually, just like everything else in the browser
Don't hesitate to file a bug for that feature to be taken care of, though -
Please, can you check if there is any difference between flags in Chrome and Vivaldi ?
-
Nice to hear that, had no idea the server bandwidth saving would be that great!
I used to prefer downloading the installers manually for very snapshot, but ever since introduction of deltas started using the updater so you can hire that extra dev -
I noticed all messages had a down vote! Is it fraud or just plain jerk that has nothing better to do !!?? Trump should get involved.
-
Yeah, I just noticed that too… Trolls, trolls everywhere...
-
Weird! Firefox isn't even a Chromium browser.
-
Everything became HUGE after this update - browser UI and default zoom level. Can anyone else confirm, or is it just my eyes playing tricks on me?
