Snapshot 1.0.418.3 - Focusing on individual requirements, not statistics
-
2 YEARS LATER:
- still no ability to have per-site customization similar to what Opera 12 had
- still no fast and reliable local RSS aggregator
- still no option to put any buttons you like ANYWHERE
- still no advanced cookie handling mechanism? Oh, did I say advanced? I mean ANCIENT one, back from 2005 from old Opera.
Few years passed and yet NOT A SINGLE BROWSER EVEN MANAGED TO GET CLOSE TO THE FUNCTIONALITY OLD OPERA HAD.
This is just sad.

I want adblocking that is very convenient and makes the web much faster. As great adblocking as possible. I especially love it when it blocks YouTube ads, and just overall makes the browser much less annoying to navigate.
As for the features, sure, I mean, Vivaldi has been going really fast in adding the features they currently have now. I know mail and sync are the biggest, and I'm guessing once those are done, they can focus more energy on other stuff, and it'll be at least faster in those areas now that they don't have too much focus on mail and sync. But if it were possible to add all those cool features that O12 had, like advanced bookmarks panel, O12's amazing tab cycling, better font rendering, etc. Okay, maybe not ALL of O12's features, but a majority of them would be awesome.
Didn't it take 20 years to develop a browser mature enough to have all those modern features? I'm sure it would take much faster doing it a second time than the first time, but we'll see.

Hold it there. They just built a browser from scratch, excluding the engine. They're a small company, but they will get to the point of expansion. Just hold on, I'm sure they'll eventually get all the features O12 had, whether that'll be in version 2.0 or 3.0 or whatever.

Wow dude, you should totally create a thread in the forums on what you just wrote.

Just of plain curiosity when you switch to "start with hompage" instead of "start with last session" do you also get this "ghost tab" ?
-
What happened from Beta 3 to this snapshot? This version is almost unusuable, Freezes, shut down regularly, videos don't work, when i close the tab, site is still visible until i click on another tab?? I loved Vivaldi, hope the final works fine again
-
They updated the underlying engine from Chromium 48 to Chromium 49. Every update of the underlying engine breaks tons of stuff. They should have most, if not all, of it fixed in the next snapshot.

There was this very useful feature in Opera - Ctrl + Shift +V to "Paste & Go". Could we have that, please? Also, the feature on an extension that I used very often - "Long press to open tab in background". Something similar would be welcome. Thanks for developing Vivaldi. Had been feeling a bit low after Opera moved from Gecko. Am hoping Vilvaldi will be everything that Opera was to me till version 12.16 - and more! Regards and have a good day.

Nope, the problem still persists with uBlock disabled. Interestingly, on the said website, if I turn on blocking of remote fonts, then it blocks the time-stamp "19, 2005" and the number of upvotes and downvotes as well. Whereas without blocking remote fonts, the apostrophe, period, quotes, and question mark in the definition are blocked.

Big +1 on that Ctrl+Shift+V (or Ctrl+D for those who were with Opera for a long time). The address bar input field could also be treat differently for Gesture Commands. I used to have gesture-right,gesture-down for paste and go in Opera. I miss that a lot.

Speaking of Stacked Tabs (a vital feature in my browsing life, and one I clung to Opera 12 for) the Vivaldi interface is a bit poor at it. Not to knock it too hard, but those little buttons along the top of the tab are a bit small for quick hitting. They sit in a very fine line between resize window and the active tab. Also, not saying "just do it how Opera did" but the little arrow to expand the group was a very nice interface. Perhaps we could have slightly bigger stack buttons, and also an "expand stack" button or something.
