Snapshot 1.0.344.34 - move tabs between windows
-
This small update to Friday's snapshot is a beta 2 candidate release. Being Vivaldi, we couldn't resist adding in (our initial implementation) of a feature to move tabs between windows. We also fixed a nasty crash.
-
Nice! Feels smoother already.
So you guys are releasing both Beta 2 and Stable 1 huh? That's gonna be awesome!
-
Why not just implement the dragging of tabs between windows the way that Chrome already does? (Heck, even the new Edge browser does it)
-
This is step one. This was quicker to implement and also has the advantage of being more precise when working with multiple windows as you can just send to a given window without a careful drag move. But sure, we will add more to this feature such as dragging.
-
Thanks for the kind feedback
-
Yep, beta 2 is coming soon. As for final, we always want to get to a final, when it is ready.
-
But it's not stable currently. It was before, but since 3-4 snapshots something is wrong. Vivaldi likes to crash on private windows (probably it's something related to popups creation, but I can't be sure), and what's more suprising - Vivaldi likes to freeze completely. Mouse pointer gets stuck within Vivaldi window boundaries, I have to wait until Windows realize it's frozen and let me close it (so the whole browser get killed).
Reported both issues already.
Anyway, with these issues it's better not to release anything as "Stable"
-
Have you noticed and pattern to when this happens? I have seen the reports but we have not narrowed down when it gets frozen.
Anyway, agreed we can't have stuff like that in final.
-
That is, a simple drag and drop in a new window will not be like the opera?
And Ruarí Ødegaard, please tell us exactly when will be built into the window Developer Tools -
Personally I find this a lot more useful. This enables you to easily have multiple windows and easily move between them, even with maximized windows. Try it out. My guess is you will like this better than just being able to drag the tabs.
Cheers,

Yea I actually find it quite good, however it lack shortcuts.
For instance a number for each window in order would be nice.Just like the old way in Opera 12's trash. Numbers from 1-9 opened that last X'th closed tab. This also still a missing feature in Vivaldi btw!
So for instance, rightclicking on a tab, then pressing "M 3" would move it the third window. The M part already works on the english language version.
M3… Hmm, that reminds me of something

Why not fix the GMX MailCheck extension and ignore this bug?
Please fix this, thanks. And “Paste and Go” via right click doesn't work on existing site…
Menu item “Paste and Go” only englisch. -
Yes! Finally can move tabs into new windows. Not the best solution, but it's a start.
1. Make it so that you can drag tabs outside the window to make a new browser window please
2. And make the procedure not load the page again after moving to new window. One step further to a great browser.
-
Yes, we need some shortcuts as well.
And Mail is coming.
Cheers,
Jon. -
I had a freeze again when using this latest snapshot just now. This has been happening over the last few snapshots.
It looks like memory usage is getting a bit better though. I would love to know if you guys are working on that too, and if you plan on improving usage and resources.
-
I agree with both points here. Thumbs up!
-
With every operation, we aim to allow multiple ways to do things. This time we added the context menus. We still have to add keyboard shortcuts and drag and drop. That will come later. Personally I think the context menu is a better solution than drag and drop as it gives you more granular control, but we will add both.
Cheers,
Jon. -
Jon,
Thank you so much for bringing this amazing browser. I love it!
Although there are some things I would love to have added and improved, I hope you guys have been paying attention to my comments in the last snapshot releases. One of which is the garbage collection on RAM to make it super light.

There is a lot going on in Chromium that has to do with RAM usage and management.
So far, it would make sense for the Vivaldi team to wait and see how it turns out. -
Please, bring back mobile UA string from 1.0.344.5 (web skype is broken in this build)
