Tab stack tiling, on demand plugins in tabs, more mouse gestures, better import and a more snappy UI
-
The tile tab stacking is really awesome!
No idea how I could ever live without thatI don't know since when speed dial is able to make use of different fav folders but that's a really great feature as well! I'm falling on love more and more. Once the mail client is working Vivaldi will definitely become my standard browser!
At this point I want to express my huge gratitude towards everyone of the devs. The browser you're working on is great and it's really awesome how you deal with community and listen to new ideas even if you get spammed with unrealistic wish lists.
Very minor things I found:
-
Once the download of a file has started this cannot be aborted. The stop button in the download panel stays greyed out.
-
When I click on the arrow in the download panel it asks me to select a download location. Nevertheless the download starts again immediately replacing the file from the default location.
-
When attempting to print a page there is no way to exit the print menu other than pressing esc. (No button!)
-
Reloading a page via button/F5 works for the Speed Dial but the mouse gesture (up->down) doesn't. (Speed Dial only)
Mouse-gesture reloading often fails to work in general. -
When using drag&and drop to move a tab into the bookmarks bar (both being located on the top) this action may fail if you only have a few favorites saved due to the preview window of the tab blocking the possibility to release the tab. Also, you cannot move tabs to empty places of the bookmark bar (i.e. the complete right side) but only to places with a favorite nearby,
-
It is possible to drag&drop the SpeedDail tab into the bookmarks bar which usually creates an empty folder. Sometimes (I couldn't not identify a trigger) it makes the closest favorite it was dragged to increase in size as if a tab stop was added (this is gone after a restart).
-
Clicking on links with an #anchor always opens a new window instead of simply jumping on the same page. (Example: http://www.stargate-eaw.de/index.php/en/component/agorapro/default-topic/2889-frequently-asked-questions-faq-english#p53510 )

Auto-Update should work again now
-

Did you click on that download in the panel first?
-
Currently it is not possible to download the snapshot - the transfer is very low (around 0-100kb per second, very varying) and it breaks after some time. Also in other browser, so it is not a problem within Vivaldi. So are your servers overloaded by all the people downloading the snapshot?
Can anyone confirm this at the moment on his end?
-
I can confirm this happens to me too. There must be some time limit, but I don't know how long.
-
anybody using adguard extension, does it work now?
-
en few minutes 25 mb from 36 mb
-
Password manager and gesture for "reload page" does not works. When "search with"?
-
Ooooooohh! You guys! How do you do it? Another snapshot so soon after Monday; V is getting better each time. I'm almost giddy with happiness. This SS is indeed snappier. I like the new speed dial. Not crazy about tab tiling but it's an option so no problem. Still hoping for tabs to go tight to the top :-). Great job and Thank you!

…
I'm not that stupid :p
(So yes, I did that) -
Rocking gestures (right-click, left-click for back and vice-versa for forward) seem to be broken atm.
-
My post of 7 hours ago has lost its edit capability… so the limit is under that timespan.
-
What are mouse gestures, where do you find them? They aren't in settings….
-
I still find the Downloads panel to be totally not snappy - opening it, especially for the first time from launching Vivaldi, freezes Vivaldi's interface for up to minutes…
-
BUT the "Empty Tab Title" problem remains… you know the drill :
Confirmed.
1. Pinned tabs shouldn't be closeable ! (sorry to repeating this every week !)
Agreed. I understood the whole idea of pinned tabs is to keep them safe. This was the case in Opera.
5. make the "Plugins on Demand" option available in the Settings Page.
I second that.
And it should cover also HTML5 video, as the current option does not stop YouTube from displaying the video. Where I understand it is just meant to do just it - prevent heavy content and videos from loading. -
Ctrl+tab and ctrl+shift+tab to switch tabs doesn't seem to be working in Arch Linux x64
A minor annoyance is that sometimes the tab previews/tooltips themselves show up in the previews. Not a big deal though.
Also, chiming in with my hopes of having the borders around the application removed, since I use a tiling WM that maximizes all windows by default, it would be nice to be able to click on tabs, Vivaldi menu, panel button, etc just by moving the mouse to the side of the screen and clicking (as it is now, the mouse cursor changes to a "resize" cursor–useless for me--and clicking does nothing).
Would also be nice to be able to disable the window buttons (minimize/maximize/close) entirely so the trash button is the item in the top right of the screen... Although I imagine you guys are working on eventually having full UI customization much like classic Opera 12 had.
Otherwise, very happy with the progress being made... The tab tiling is a great idea Still very excited about your work and the browser in general! Great job!!

A request for this blog.
In addition to this option when posting a comment:
Notify me of followup comments via e-mailwould it be asking for too much to get a separate option:
Notify me of replies to my comment via e-mailto get replies only if someone replies to my comment, instead of just add another one in the same topic? With hundreds of comments it would be really crucial and helpful.
A different e-mail subject in the e-mail would be of value then, as Gmail groups e-mails by subject. -
No gestures seem to be working for me, what may be wrong?
They work on fresh install, they do not work when you upgraded Vivaldi from previous build. Not that I find it proper, such disconnect is very worrying.
Another thing (it's been so for one or two builds before this one): text entered in "Quick commands" sometimes gets interpreted as a page nickname, so a new page may open even before hitting "Enter". Even if this is intended functionality, it should be optional and/or in a separate dialogue (like the one in Opera Presto - invoked by Ctrl+F2 by default IIRC).
Totally agreed! This should be separated out to F2 vs. Ctrl+F2, as these are two different sets of functionality with two different behaviours:
- searching through quick commands + Enter required
- invoking a bookmark - without Enter required
Moreover, the list of tabs should be either also separated out or clubbed into an expandable list, instead of listing them all on top - which clutters this option and make it unreadable.

Thank you for the reply. I tried again after 4 hours and system reboot and it is fine, I downloaded with no problems. I guess Windows was out of memory, so reboot was crucial to resolve this issue.

have you tried doing a clean install instead of upgrading it. I found that clean install tend to fix previous bugs. Sometimes I have clean out old browsing data as well to fix it
