Vivaldi's Android browser
-
I Have been waiting for the Vivaldi Android browser for years, since it was announced.
I am a contributor of many many adopted suggestions under the old Opera system (and since on Android and chrome), but became very dismayed when Opera went rogue, dumbing down their product.l, nuking my on device data, and making it extremely difficult.
I was very anticipatory of Vivaldi to.resture something like desktop m2 functionality, after Firefox failed to materialise their plugin mail and.nrw client. Now you tell me that vivaldi will leave off features they think (like Firefox and Google) may not be suitable for users. But, I have Office Text maker full, which is a desktop menu gui office package, that shows most of this android dumbed down making it hard to use for anything substantial, app design as rubbish. Everything desktop could fit on a sizable phone, but I want it for tablet use, which pretty much matches desktop size usability. So, desktop Vivaldi can fit on a device with twin user switchable mode option, betwern mobile and desktop tablet.
With webassembly and targeting JavaScript API, it is possible to do most of the platform in webassembly/javawcript target, with only some of it platform specific interfacing. I would suggest this. The wait for Android is very very long.
We are being strangled by android, whenever there is a need to do anything significant in productivity and to help ourselves get out of big messes from using android and Android apps. Simplified so you Tear your Hair (STH) mobile OS's are the anti Christ of userability productivity and OS'S, please don't follow them. Please make Vivaldi Android a worthy product we can external storage backup all our sessions bookmarks, email, news group data etc in open format, firvessy recovery, doing everything desktop Opera and M2 used to and more.
Please also completely stop all dnsunlocker Google API type exploits from observing everything we do on page, taking over the system, spying on credit C numbers etc, and inserting adds and redirecting to other sites also loading the previous page ddurected from? It is crazy.
On the subject of extensions and plugins, Firefox is redoing because their sandbox is poor and the extension system bad. I image Google will redo chrome system to.
Now, as Vivaldi is based on chrome, do they contribute their changes to it under the license?
We are being held over a barrel with the red hit poker of the Google advertising doller interest stuck up our back. We need a full and open data web system, please?

Hmm, sorry, do these profiles show their email to other people? It is confusing, there seems to be a half greyed out eye, and no options?
-
@way No, your email isn't being shown to other users. I just checked your profile and it isn't being displayed.
-
@way If you hover over the eye it says in a tooltip "E-mail hidden". I don't find that particularly intuitive, but that indicates its not visible to others.
-
Thanks for that guys. It is not intuitive at all. I took a guess it wasn't, but years ago thete were forums that displayed the email by default, so I didn't know what it was trying to tell me.

Thanks for that Vivaldi. On a side note, you do Linux video codecs. Can you do android encoders? There is distinct disadvantages in Android, as it lacks professional video codecs for use with camera applications (like codecs similar to ProRes and ProRes Raw, or the now opensourced cineform codec) and probably a descent storage driver for high datarate recording (50MByte+ a second).
-
@way Afaik no one of the Vivaldi team writes Linux codecs. Vivaldi just uses or suggest you to use available open source ones.

@luetage see the post above mine I'm replying to. His name apparently is Vivaldi too, and he does Linux codecs. Incidentally, these sorts of codecs will be handy for a Vivaldi android browser one day, if they can bridge between Linux and android code (though the camera api is Linux open source).
I remember when I got Opera to do an Opera operating system. We need a Vivaldi operating system and services, because Google and android are a real.ness, and we have webassembly binary now for JavaScript code.

@gwen-dragon Thanks very much for your reply Vivaldi Soprano (guess that is not your name). Sorry about the gender confusion, but things aren't clear =:( .
-
@way Eh, sorry. I read your reply as an original post. I misread this as new topic.
