cannot minimize vivaldi on OSX
-
On mac osx 10.12.2, when I have a vivaldi window open, only the red close and green maximize buttons are available. The yellow bubble is missing until I hover over it. Then it turns yellow but lacks the minux symbol, and clicking it does nothing.

Thanks very much for reporting this issue. I also reported the regression as well a few snapshots ago. If any of the Vivaldi Mac developers are listening, here's an easy way to trigger the bug:
- Launch Vivaldi.
- Go to youtube.com and play any video.
- Put the video into "Full screen" mode. (Click the icon on the bottom right of the video.)
- Hit the Escape key to return to normal mode.
-> The minimize window control button becomes inactive.

Can confirm issue has been in Vivaldi since at least version 1 on the Mac (no such issues on the Windows version).
You can work around the issue by double-clicking on the titlebar to maximise the window, then double-click again to resize back. Once you do this, the button becomes available again.
It smells like a Javascript issue. The reason I say this is because I also see the window completely lock up due to a javascript of some kind - click away from the window and back again is a workaround for this issue.
Annoyances that, in my opinion, are stopping Vivaldi from becoming better placed against browsers like Firefox and Safari on MacOS.
Hope this helps.

@bitlevel Thanks for the great tip to get Vivaldi back into a good state! You can also get some additional insight into the nature of this glitch when you right-click on the window management buttons while they are in a "broken" state.
I share your frustration with glitches and UI issues on the Mac that are not present on other platforms. I know that Vivaldi made a conscious design decision not to use native widgets, and the Vivaldi designers have done an amazing job to make Vivaldi look as good as it does on the Mac. However, ardent Mac users are notoriously sensitive to any hints of non-nativeness and any shortcomings with native platform integration.

I reported this bug on 11th November of last year as VB-23194. It's been around for longer though. Can't really remember which snapshot introduced it.

This has nothing to do with native vs non-native, nor does it have anything to do with unreasonable users. These are simple functions every program has to handle. Vivaldi isn't doing it properly. Moreover, your "sensitive" users have brought this to your attention multiple times. In the 4 days this was posted, we got a response from a member of the vivldi team telling us their designers do amazing work and we are being sensitive for simply discussing it with you.
This isn't about aesthetics. A basic feature of every GUI doesn't work on your application.

@mentaluproar There was absolutely no disrespect to you (or to anyone else) intended. I truly apologize if it came across that way.

I don't work for Vivaldi. (Those that do have a Vivaldi badge next to their user names.) I'm just an outsider trying to help people here as best as I can. When I spoke of notoriously sensitive ardent Mac users, I proudly put myself in that group. I actually do share your frustration and express it right along with you.
As a Moderator, my posts also get a bit more visibility and scrutiny, so I was actually hoping that my posts here would raise some awareness about this and other issues that need to be fixed in order to to make Vivaldi on the Mac as good as it can be.
