Good bye forever, Vivaldi.

@barbudo2005 Nine times out of ten, a topic that starts in the way that that one did will go south very quickly. However, one in ten will end with the OP apologising for venting his frustration (it is nearly always a guy), and appreciating the help.
Free speech means that we should tolerate a few hurtful words, and remain focused on solving the issue that the OP had. In that case, the OP had apparently changed something in his settings without realising what he had done, and needed to be made aware of that, and not just told how to change it back to the default. -
@Pesala Sadly we Ambassadors are not allowed to use free speech and throw mud on some special Vivaldi users in forums.
And as a dragon i am not allowed to burn the house and give them some hot pants -

I'm sorry but I don't understand the expression “go south”. What does it mean?

Sorry, I didn't know that free speech included mistreatment.

It seems to me that I didn't talk about throw mud in my post.
A question for both of you:
Why was the thread deleted?

Perhaps the thread violated Code of Conduct or other forum rules.

Try a search with Ecosia would tell you that it is an idiom for going down or declining, probably derived from the fact that on maps, south is the downward direction.
Free speech that is limited to saying only things that do not cause offence, is not free. The limit should be much more than calling someone a twit. It should should be defamatory or lies aimed at causing reputational or financial harm.
The thread could have been deleted on the request of the OP. When I was a moderator, I would have simply deleted the offensive comments for being contrary to the Code of Conduct.

I've always thought it was about crossing the Mason-Dixon line
In the UK it should probably be "go north" as in It's Grim Up North

Well, this forum is under the Vivaldi Community CoC and ToU and so by those terms it's not a free speech forum. For those wanting to discuss politics/religion or insult others there's plenty other options
I recommend the Political Mudpit of the TWCenter (I would not like to be a moderator there though...)

To stop any speculation about why - the topic in question was deleted because the OP decided to delete all their posts so there was no choice. Although it would've been locked/pruned in any case.

@frustratedvivaldier You do know that you don't actually have to use all the new stuff, right?
@Granite1 said in Good bye forever, Vivaldi.:
It is about choice: you set it up to use whatever you need or takes your fancy, and like you say, you are not obliged to use all Vivaldi's features.
There are many users across all products who, even when a product has features they're not obliged to use, will still complain of "bloat." So, in this case, they want the browser to have just the features they want upfront, no matter what others may want.

Good point, which actually proves that is not possible to please everyone. To those who think Vivaldi is too bloated I say to just use another browser as Vivaldi is not the only one, so even there one has a choice.
-
@DoctorG Is Right.

There are always people who complain, that is human nature. Bloat is a particularly controversial topic for 1 simple reason: it is very subjective. So, that means what 1 person perceives as bloat another will perceive as full of great features.
A slimmed down browser will still get complaints as “lacking in features”.

Exactly!

Indeed. I remember, when responding to a criticism of Microsoft Word (or Office) that people only used 5% of its features, Microsoft's retorting that the problem is that everyone uses a different 5%.

I can say that I'm a longtime user and still love it!
What I get from @frustratedvivaldier 's posting that he doesn't like it anymore. Good, that's his right. ALL the other words is just frustration, which as we all know, is "NEVER de posters" fault.
Up to my next job..... -

As it is NEVER their fault, all we ask of them is that they leave quietly, so quietly without making a fuss, and of course we wish them the best of luck with their next and not last browser.
Let's look at this issue from a super practical point of view.
A housewife buys Cowy milk in the supermarket and has realized that she is not liking it so much and is going to try another brand that a friend is recommending to her. All of which is great.
What would not be all right and is NEVER done is to ask to speak to the supermarket manager to claim that she doesn't like the milk for X, Y, Z and other reasons and that she is going to start buying another milk.
Or what is even more ridiculous, is to write to the email of the consumer of the brand of milk and do the same.
What any housewife does is simply start buying another brand of milk.
