Please let us modify the new Splash Screen

Is it an unavoidable price for a browser that is also a mail client, calendar and much more?
Not for those reasons. It is because Vivaldi is much more customisable than other browsers due to its layer of code on top of the Chromium base, that the Vivaldi window takes a few hundred milliseconds longer to load (or a few seconds on slower systems).
On my 4-year-old PC, it takes 200 or 300 milliseconds to load Vivaldi.
Watch Loading Vivaldi on YouTube.

I first thought that it was a temporary message/slogan (which personally I support and appreciate anyway) in a difficult political era, then I realised that it is here to stay ?
So, how can we disable the splash screen ? I just want to go directly to Speed Dial or a blank page.
-
@gorg The splash screen is required to avoid a bright white flash while Vivaldi starts. Showing a logo, or some slogan is the secondary purpose. Without it, users might think that they did not click the shortcut, and so press it again.
-
@Pesala Still, I think it is a bad UI for most and I would prefer to just go directly to the program, like in most other applications I use.

If it was possible they wouldn't have to show a splash screen at all.
The splash screen is there to tell you "stop clicking the icon on the desktop, you already started the application but we need to do some invisible things before even creating and showing the GUI"On my PCs where Vivaldi is installed on SSDs and I have very few tabs and sidepanels the splash screen is so quick to disappear that I barely notice it, on the older PCs where it was installed on HDs a splash screen could really take a couple of seconds to disappear and the GUI finally get shown.

Multiple clicking an icon on the desktop was never a problem for me and I am using computers since the mid 80s. I have an ultra fast intel (sic) Mac, Vivaldi is on NVMe and the splash screen lag from v7.3 is definitely noticeable and startup is much worse than v7.2. Not only this but if for some reason a reboot/relogin forces previously open apps to reopen, Vivaldi either takes too long or hangs at the new splash screen and I have to force-kill it.

Sadly with a dark theme and/or dark OS mode i see a short white flash after start before splash screen appears.

In both Windows and Linux? Here - with Linux - it's only light splash screen...

Man, I thought I was going nuts. I'm so glad I've found this post.
The new splash screen is hideous.
Listen, I don't care if you advocate for an intergalactic gummy bear religion in the splash screen - please for the love of the world return the old solid dark colour. The new splash screen burns my eyes in a dark room.
Please, I don't want to start browser hopping - Vivaldi is the best browser in the world, but this new splash screen colours are seriously making me want to change (and I really don't want to leave the Vivaldi eco system)

Vivaldi snapshot 7.4.3648.3 on Linux.
I see splash screen has changed a bit compared to the previous snapshot, but it's still bright!I would just take good old dark splash screen and make it a bit darker. That's it, problem solved, everyone happy again

@Stardust This splash screen has been glowing for some time. I remember discussing it with @DoctorG several months ago. The only new thing is the text line at the bottom.
I only noticed new glowing splash screen recently in the snapshot. But there is a delay for snapshots in my distro.
-
@Stardust I'm mostly talking about the stable version here.
-
@Dancer18 who even uses Stable version..

I dislike the "Made in Europe" message
And you're right about that.
Considering that many Western Europeans today use the word "Europe" (and "european values") to identify themselves, contrasting it with the rest of the world, including many parts of southern, central and eastern Europe that are not part of Western civilization and, of course, Asia and Africa. Therefore, many people will have bad associations when they encounter the phrase "made with love in Europe.". I know that Vivaldi's team consists of good people (not from those "many"). It's just an unforeseen side effect. -
Allright, there is a new Stable version update out with a much improved, monochromatic Splash Screen based on the <7.2 pallette and slightly darker, with the logo making the contrast now, making it overall more slick imo. Personally (I think) I approve it, the heart at least is not red and I think the text looks more "blended" with the background, making it less intrusive. So thanks to all of you for pushing this important for our eyes and the general aesthetic matter. I'd hope they would get rid of the message as well, but at least the most important issue was addressed. Post your thoughts
new:
pre 7.2

I am fine with new version. A huge improvement over the bright one
And no gradient!
I need to see it in person first..But it could be improved more! More darker background and Vivaldi logo even more darker than background like in old one.
-
Looks like there's a new darker splash screen. It's not exactly the same as it was before the update (for instance, Vivaldi logo is brighter for some reason) - but it's a massive improvement over the initial one.
Thanks a lot Vivaldi devs, appreciate it

the problem is they really, really want to have that message there, so in order to make it legible and not make it look like this attrocity again with either black font on bright-blinding image or that distracting white on grey

Came here after looking to see if someone thought the same as me.
Having a dark OS and dark themed browser to then be flashed by this is not nice. I would prefer it was darker if not black.
they had to make both brighter, as a set.
