I don't know if this is trolling (just like the other people that says thing like: "It DoEsN't BoThEr Me So It ShOuDn'T mAtTeR tO aNyOne") but this is a bad idea.
Let me sum up the discussion so far:
The text is distracting and annoying, you can't even read it because it is only displayed in a fraction of a second. Apart from that, the splash screen doesn't respect the color pallet of the theme that annoys dark theme people.
At least the red heart will be monochrome in next release, but the text should go in a place where people can read it, like the "about" page.

And also knowing that the splash screen doesn't respect the color pallet of the theme is problematic. I have the default theme so I didn't notice mayor difference, but people that use dark theme are very much affected by this and I can see that I would be annoyed as well.
Exactly! I use very dark themes everywhere.
I also don't see a point of changing Splash Screen
Previous one was ok, why make it worse? -
@Pesala said in Please let us modify the new Splash Screen:
the splash screen is only viewed for less than a second.
On older PCs it lasts more, 1-3 seconds. "Argument" instantly busted.
And according to your (typical anti-user) logic, if it is less than a second (meaning its completely useless) why have it in the first place. If it bugs you, blink when you start up Vivaldi.
Meaning it already created an unwanted psychological situation to the user.
How about showing a dick image in the splash screen, just blink away ok? No problems. -

I am using an older PC, almost 4 years since it was purchased, but it is hard to take a screenshot. The CPU was launched in 2019.
AMD Ryzen 5 3400G, 8 Gb on Windows 10
A splash screen is required to prevent that much complained about white flash on starting Vivaldi. How can a
icon offend anyone, even if they do see it for 2-3 seconds? A dick pic, however, would be offensive.
Users create their own psychological problems. They should address them at the root, instead of expecting others to cater for their peculiar needs.

Yes. But this does not bother people, does it?
-
@npro <ironic> Oh yes, next update will come with a own text.
SCNR -
@maniac0 Currently not a hundred upvotes from users who were disturbed by new screen? Sad.
But on chance members of Vivaldi graphics team see this thread, change their mind and give us a better solution.

Your 2019 PC is not everyone's PC and is certainly not "old" enough.
On my 5-years old Chromebook a Private Window takes 3 seconds to open. Normal Window about 2 seconds. That is enough of staring at stupid messages and love icons slop.
On my 2008-ish PC the same, despite having an SSD.
"Offensive" is subjective, therefore nothing should be in the splash screen except for the product's logo, which if it would be offensive to you you wouldn't be using the product to begin with.
Additionally, If you are offended by a dick image you probably have your own psychological problems so let us have that instead and you be looking elsewhere for 3 seconds, while you try to address them at the root.

+1
Please let us disable the splash screen, its like a mini flash bang going off when working late.
I don't understand how some people are getting mad a more customizability, that's like the main selling point for this browser. -
@cringe you can't get rid of the splash screen as it is masquerading the flashbang that plagues Vivaldi, Opera, etc, the browsers that ditched good old native UI for the less performant UI made with "web technologies" aka JS+HTML+CSS (the code needs to be run in real time (vs. previously already compiled) - hence the flashbang, it is that delay- ), and which took them ages and multiple times to get it right, but at least they could make it less intrusive and darker as it was pre 7.2, instead of just annoying and infuriating everyone (except for the in-house trolls ofc). If you are interested in that, upvote the first post instead of a +1, otherwise @DoctorG will keep complaining there aren't enough people wishing that lol. Speaking of btw, 12 people in just 3 days is incredibly good compared to some requests here having less amount of votes in 10 years.

Yes. True. 12 per hour would be better.

OK. Then I would like to be able to select an image which would be displayed as the splash screen.

It was not great, but now it is just straight ugly...
Please let add splash color to theme customization. -

I think it depends. I love customizability and for things like the widget page, panels, themes etc. it makes sense. But you always have to draw a little line every so often in an App. A deeply customizable splash screen would mean that the software needs to do more stuff before / while showing said screen, including loading all the parameters your individualization requires. This could cause the splash screen (I never noticed it btw beside < 1 sec during initial browser startup because it's gone so quickly on my computers) to be shown longer just to load the customization stuff, which makes the overall browser experience slower for everyone. And especially with browsers, there will be a lot of threads with complaints then, why browser x y and z is way faster than Vivaldi and never shows splash screens that long.
Reacting to dark / light themes better or at least providing an option to "branded" splash screen like now, or just a selectable solid color instead, should however not be that performance relevant and maybe be a good compromise, I think. Looks like there are surprisingly a bunch of people seeing that thing half the time of their whole working day it seems.
-
I think it is a nice touch. Made with Europe with love means that it might have better aesthetic appeal and less bloatware because Europe has higher standards than the good old US. As does Asia. If you can notice Japanese or Korean or German or European cars are much better because overseas they have higher quality and safety standards for the car. therefore in Europe they may have higher software standards.

I have a dark theme. Nevertheless, the splash screen here is bright, which I don't find suitable at all. I would prefer to have an option to omit the splash screen altogether.
However, if it is necessary to give the UI time, then I would like to have a dark one or be able to select it. Several months ago, there was a dark one for a short time, but then it became bright again - even with a dark theme.BTW: The text here is with a heart in same color (dark gray).
-
Easiest fix would be the change of background to very dark one without any gradient.
-
It looks like a stupid "pokemon" "tik-tok" trend that Vivaldi has to follow?
