Extensions not loading when opening links in a new tab
-
I just installed the latest NVIDIA driver 572.83 that was released yesterday. Opening links in background tabs:
- Ads are blocked but the space that the ads occupied is still used but simply blank.
- YouTube ads are still shown, AdGuard is not working properly
I disabled hardware acceleration - same result. Enabled it again - same result.
The new NVIDIA driver is the only thing that changed during this tests, so something has happened. -
@Woife For me it looks like so-called "cosmetic filter" fails in Adguard to hide the removed content.
In such case for me a reload with F5 hide the areas. -
Hey!
This is exactly what we are talking about. I might have not expressed that clearly before, for which I am sorry, but the ads themselves are blocked. It's only their "placeholder" that is not being removed, leaving ugly, gray areas. I do believe I showed that here, though.
@Woife Of course, I was not expecting you to use Vivaldi without... well, Vivaldi
I was just trying to make sure that it behaves the same way as it does for me. And seeing that your result is the same as mine, I am now convinced that it is somehow Vivaldi's fault.
(I probably forgot to mention before that I use Samsung SSD 980 PRO (NVMe), but I don't believe it matters now)

@PanPuszek
Aha, then I miss understood the whole thread.
I don't even look at the page only at the Adguard icon if it count blocked content.
Maybe reporting this to the AdGuard developers help better than the bug report in Vivaldi.
I will add the information to the report. -
It's really hard for me to believe that it's Adguard's fault, since when Vivaldi's UI is disabled, it works well on pure Chromium. Both I and Wolfie have confirmed that.

@PanPuszek When it is a timing issue and getting different results on different machines, it is not easy to investigate and debug.
When the ad is really blocked, it is for me, only a cosmetic issue.
Please, if you think Vivaldi developers should investigate, then report issue to Vivaldi bug tracker, include as much detail as possible.
Once that is done, share the bug number (beginning with VB-) you got by bug report mail.And if interested read blog article, if you like to know about "A bug’s life at Vivaldi".
Thanks for helping us making Vivaldi better.

@DoctorG
It is reported and I can reproduce it now on https://www.computerbase.de for example.
@PanPuszek
I don't think this is Adguard's fault but some developers work together with the Vivaldi developers.
May you get some information.
Such bugs get low priority anyway, I use the Vivaldi ad blocker and it doesn't support cosmetic filtering at all.
uBlock Lite on some installs, Adblock is tracked on some pages I use, uBo Lite not and so forth.
Good we tracked down the issue and I can confirm the bug report internally. -

As I agree with you that it's a "cosmetic issue", it is a vital part of an adblocker for me. Okay, I don't see the ads, but the page still looks ugly and is somewhat hard to read because the ads' placeholders disrupt the flow of the page.
Also, there is a matter of YouTube which makes it a lot more than cosmetic, since it seems that without the cosmetic filter, the ads are still served there. After a refresh - poof, no problem at all.
