      I only have the included Windows Security and I've never had this problem before. I have the uBlock Origin extension (ad-blocker), but I wouldn't think it deletes files like that.

        @bowelripper Really strange.
        And you do not use Windows own cleaning tool to clean from unneeded files?

          Nope, haven't used it. I've now installed FolderChangesView to monitor the folder to see exactly when the files get deleted.

            Good idea.

            I am keen which program causes epmtying of folder.

              Just now I saw it in real time. The folder was open in my file explorer, and when I closed Vivaldi, the files were immediately wiped. So apparently Vivaldi wipes them upon closing - sometimes. What could cause this?

                @bowelripper Which Vivaldi version?

                Could only be a extension. Or strange Vivaldi Sync processing.

                Or you set Settings → Privacy → Browsing History → Current Session?

                Or a broken update/install.
                Download installer from vivaldi.com, uninstall (do not let delete browser data!), install

                  Browsing history was set to one year. I guess I will just have to un- and reinstall and hope that solves it.

                    Damn, once again the tab images are gone (look at attached image in opening post to see what I mean). It worked for a little while after I uninstalled and installed Vivaldi again, but now the problem has reappeared. Nobody's got a clue why the image files get deleted from the thumbnail folder randomly?

                      We never saw such issue and had not got any bug reports in our bug tracker.

                        It's really strange indeed. Not sure how I can try to narrow down the cause.

                            Sync is turned on, yes. The thumbnail folder you're referring to is the one where the images get wiped. The other one I haven't checked.

                                    @bowelripper Something (external app) on your OS must be clearing the folder content.
                                    Vivaldi itself does not clear it.

                                        Just a note: Windows 10 has a setting in something called "storage sense" marked "Delete temporary files that my apps aren't using".

                                        Maybe this is the problem?

                                          Windows Start → Settings → System → Storage → Storage Sense

                                          But as i see that is disabled by default.

                                            @DoctorG I made the filters like described in your link, but ProcMon doesn't seem to record when files get deleted (f.ex. when starting up Vivaldi it deletes some of the files, I can see it in real-time).

                                            @LonM & @DoctorG Yes, the feature is also in Win 11, but it is turned off here, so obviously can't be that.
