Of course. The Orange Oaf's priorities are:

      1. Cancel all court cases and judgements against me.
      2. Give decent jobs to all my closest supporters (the dumber they are the better!)
      3. Make sure all my wealthy donors and the top (wealthiest) tier of society are taken care of.
      4. The rest of the world can go fry, unless I like their leaders (strong men like Putin and Orban and Kim and Netanyahu - nice guys I trust).

      MAGA my arse!

@electryon The antitrust case was actually started under the Trump DOJ. In principle, there's no reason why the DOJ couldn't stick to the behavioural remedies rather than both behavioural and structural (breakup). I.e., end all payments for default search engine placement, require search engine choice screens, mandate access to competitors to Google's search index. (The DOJ is also asking that Google educates the public on the existence of alternative search engines. Most users likely have no idea that alternatives even exist.) This is the kind of thing the EU regulators have been doing.

Mozilla will be impacted by this of course, as it means they will get nothing from Google. As things stand it means they will go out of business.

@wintercoast Yup... Also, JD Vance has stated that he has a disdain for big tech and it's control.

There's no reason to believe that Trump would change the DOJ's behaviour here.

That does not mean Mozilla Foundation is going bankcrupt, they can search an other donor. Mozilla Foundation & Company is not a poor victim.

That's why I said "as things stand." But it will be interesting to see what they do. there was a short period of time where they had Bing as default, if I'm not mistaken.

Maybe one of the AI companies (but not Google or Microsoft) will swoop in? But that might upset the userbase.

@wintercoast Well, featurewise Opera is indeed not that bad. But when I have to fear that my data is sold to Chinese companies especially in these serious geopolitical times, that's no go for me.
I don't think they're honest even when trying to debunk claims of being spyware.

@Himmelssheriff99, Opera sell userdata to companies in every country, among them also to Mr.Zuckerberg.

@Catweazle I just realize that I wanted to answer another post by @wintercoast in the other thread about Opera. 😅
