Hi. How can a i have a vivaldis mail account ?
-
@lisichko Forum up-votes also helps to increase the reputation level.
-
@lisichko Hmmm. I can't test this because when I created a test account to see how long it took to get email, (almost no time at all) I made many supportive, helpful and cheerful comments to the forum, and soon had over fifty upvotes of my comments. Of course I also blogged, synced, participated heavily in the Vivaldi Mastodon community, and I made a concerted effort to remain active.
But I am pretty sure that upvotes on the forum are not required at all. All that is required is that one be active on the forum, and the more activity, the quicker one gets email.

Our mail accounts used to be widely available. We wanted them to be available for all our users. Sadly scammers created havoc. We spent a lot of time dealing with them and one scammer might have Vivaldi.net blocked by other mail services. That happened multiple times.
If scammers figure out how to get accounts, we will have to change things again. Worst case we have to block new users from getting mail services at all.

@jon I have been thinking to suggest one time payment / donation with a minimum threshold + open and predefined number of days for sync + open and predefined number of posts and replies. If webmail is really popular monetizing is usually an option to prevent easy ride scammers. Am I too profit driven

@iqaluit I don't think that creating a link between the service and a payment is good. People who want an email address will create demands 'I paid for this '. It's either a paid service or it's not. There is no "free but requires a donation"

@WildEnte sounds about right
-
It's a bit funny to get contradicting information, but I understand that some level of obscurity is necessary to avoid spammers' mass registrations and abuse of the service.
-
@lisichko It's strange. I can see your reputation is 7, the same as other people who already has access to the webmail.
-
@apohelia Yes, that's somewhat strange, but I guess the system is quite complex, and the forum reputation isn't enough. My account must be failing somewhere.
-
@apohelia @lisichko The reputation level displayed in your Forum profiles, is the level only for the Forum. When you use our other services (Sync, submit a Theme, use Vivaldi Social (our Mastodon instance), submit a Blog, etc.), this will also increase your overall reputation level.
We (volunteers) do not know what the level is, that unlocks Webmail access. You just have to continue to use our services and once that level is reached, you should receive an e-mail that you now have the privilege.
