Features requests for 1.4
-
As the features requests thread is getting incredibly long, we're creating a new category to keep a better overview of your requests. Please check before posting your requests, if it has already been requested. We can't guarantee that we'll implement your favorite feature but we're considering them all. Once Vivaldi 1.4 will be released, we'll close this topic and start a new one for 1.5. Thank you for using Vivaldi!

Good idea and happy requests
-
Not such a good idea IMO, without a list of the most frequent requests. Even then, people often don't read the list before adding their own request, which is already in the list. Posts requesting features already in the list should be deleted.
3. More customizable gestures: • a) FlipBack/Forward assignable, and default for Expand/Collapse Bookmark Tree. b) Middle-click assignable default for PageBar Open URL On MiddleClick, c) Go to parent directory command
26. Confirm to exit if downloads are still in progress.

30. Mnemonic keyboard shortcuts: e.g. b,b,c = Go to page, "www.bbc.co.uk" or t,d = Execute program, "O:/Documents/ToDo.txt" -

Bookmark Exporting
I think this is a pretty standard feature for browsers, but I haven't seen it in Vivaldi.
It's on the File Menu. Export Bookmarks.
-
What I think should be in 1.4, some of which are actually pretty basic:
- Vivaldi's history panel/history page.
- Vertical list tab cycler that works just like the one in O12.
- Drag tabs to new window. I know you're working on this as a whole tab rewrite, and if you're close to finished, it would be a great chance to show it here.
- Sort tabs in tab stack.
- Movable buttons/UI elements.
- Further development of SD page, like choosing thumbnails, size, along with a downloads and history page on the SD so it has everything the panel has.
- Further development and fixes to themes.
Those are mostly what I would love in the near future in 1.4. But the one thing, above all, which needs to happen, are performance improvements. CPU/RAM usage needs to go down, and performance needs to increase.

cpu usage 99% watching youtube please fix this thanks.

It is already best browser for me !! Thanks for your great works Vivaldi Developers !!!
It would be better if below features were added:-Address Bar color change option (I love dark themes but it would be great if address bar weren't dark too )
-Adding applications or extension buttons to Panel. (Downloaded some apps from store but if I don't create shortcut to desktop it is really hard to open them for example Postman -not the extension but the app itself- )
-Open bookmark at the background option
-Developer options at the bottom of the screen like Chrome
-Export settings or synchronization
-a drop down menu with better visuals :))also users don't want to install extensions. It would be great to add some features which some extensions do. For example:
-A password manager like lastpass
-Built-in AdBlocker. (If that will be possible I wish it would be better than Opera's )
-VPN service would be great
-An option to see current IP with small font size on the bottom right or left. maybe on statusbar
-Turning of the lightsThat's all for now But as I said in the beginning Vivaldi is already good right now. But if those features listed above by me and by other users added to Vivaldi than it will be the GOD OF THE BROWSERS definitely !!
Thanks again. Keep it up boyz !!!

Cool!
This is exactly the kind of feedback we've been lacking for the last year and a half…

I think what you are asking is un-viable, on the last part. here's why:
usually users already have their own password manager: in my case and hundreds (if not more) of people, we use Keepass, turning the built-in PM just something bloating the screen; same for in-built ADblocker. those need to be updated frequently, more frequent than vivaldi get's updated. I don't see the devs releasing a new version of vivaldi just to update the ADblocker only, the alternative would make their own extension, but there are dozens out there, and as I said, people have their own: someone uses ADblock +, Ublock origin, ADguard, etc. VPN service same thing: despite having a lot of cost to make one, (infrastructure is expensive) so if the devs make one it is most likely to be a paid one. Opera has a "VPN service", which is not a VPN, take it as an extension to change your proxy, that's all it is, that's why it's free, it demands no infrastructure, meaning no costs.
to see the current IP address you have it's simple: check your router's page; or see here: http://www.whatsmyip.org/ besides, you get a new IP every time you fresh connect to your router, you cant have a fixed IP afaik.
turning off the lights seems an interesting feature, despite there are a lot of extensions out there that do the trick, like the one called "turn off the lights". this last one is the one I agree most, since they just work all the same way and don't need frequent updates. -
Reading the requests here I just have only one to do for now:
-
Importing/exporting the "description" field of bookmaks too. In the last builds you could finally import the nicknames too, but the "description" is as important as. I copy or put any text that helps me to find exactly what I look for and I would like that field be imported too.
-
There are two options where you mark if you want the bookmark be on bookmark bar and/or speed dial. I would like both options to be imported too when you import/exporting the bookmarks.

I hope in the future for those features too

I think vivaldi team should focus on security and privacy than on adding features, just see for example Mozilla, the company is making some changes on the browser to make it more secure. for example: Mozilla wants to remove support to plugins till the beginning of 2017 (or so I heard somewhere), plugins that can be used to harm the user, like flash, silverlight, etc. Mozilla also already removed C++ from Firefox and is using now Rust: a more private and secure alternative to C++ and they are trying to add Servo to the browser too. Mozilla is also creating a blocklist aggainst plugin fingerprinting to keep the user more secure and having even more privacy… my point is that Vivaldi should think more about privacy and security, turning into a mix of Firefox and Chrome: chrome's speed and Firefox's security. would be great and I think this is what the team should aim to in my honest opinion, and not custumization. will you still want custumization when you see yourself attacked by a virus hijacking Flash?
other things I would like the browser to have:
- use less resources: (5 tabs open) ok 350MB ram is nothing, since nowadays it is common to see computer's with 8GB ram and it is becoming common to see 12GB...but for low/medium end computers is hard to keep everything smooth, because for example, you will never have only the browser open, you will have it and the music player and MS office probably, keeping all this smooth is hard to accomplish...
- a better vivaldi button: a well designed button like firefox has, which you can use to print the website, save it, create incognito windows, go to options, history, etc. meaning: something more "graphical" and not a cascade menu...
- pin new applications automatically to the sidebar: see those applications on google's website, you install and than you have a icon on windows task bar that you can click to launch an application? vivaldi could pin those shortcuts on the sidebar, because I tried to install one of those, I deleted the shortcut on the desktop and now I can't find the application on the browser LOL

Open all results in a new tab
Although selecting a bookmark opens the result in a new tab can we please also have the following …
a) new tab for search result
b) new tab for keyed URL / address
c) new tab each time Speed Dial is hitand
d) how about a BUTTON / ARROW to kick the keyed address into action ?
Then. if (like in Avant) I hit the button again and again it opens another tab again and again (it's often useful - makes the browser more productive) -
Two new types of FIND / SEARCH
The current Find (ctl+f) works fine as far as it goes, but can I also suggest two more options as found in Avant ?
These options in Avant used to have their own separate, obvious, buttons but they made it worse a few years back when they tried to cater for browsers on phones … Separate buttons would be best but users would need flexibility on visibility and position, probably ...
So this is the request ...
a) enter multiple words in search box for example "bus train plane" (maybe use this for a Google search),
but the important thing is to
Hit the Page Search button to highlight the words.
Every occurrence of each word is highlighted.
Each of the 3 words is a different colour
I've used this with perhaps 6 or 8 wordsb) enter a word or phrase for example "plane crash"
Hit the Site Search button to search the website of the active tab
It brings up a list of search results in Google (my default).
Each Google-listed result link takes me straight to that phrase in the active-tab-website.
User can then go back to select another one etc -
Up Arrow please …
In Avant is an Up Arrow icon. Hit it once and it changes this ...
vivaldi.net/en-US/forum/all/12092-vivald...nued?start=120#69350to this
vivaldi.net/en-US/forum/all/Hit it again and it becomes this ...
vivaldi.net/en-US/forum/AND it automatically changes to display that page.
This is very useful and a lot of hassle without it ...

Collapse Bookmarks in sidebar please
I've got thousands of bookmarks in umpteen folders and I open them as required.
I usually close Vivaldi without bothering to individually collapse each folderNext time I open Vivaldi, the folders are all still open … looks a big mess
Avant ( have I mentioned Avant browser before ???), each time the browser is opened, folders are already collapsed. That works fine for me
Perhaps some people would like a) an option to be collapsed when browser started, and
b) a button to manually collapse any time ... -
Single click to open bookmark folder please
It’s already single click to action a single bookmark
It’s already a single click to open a bookmark folder … ONLY if you click on the triangleBut it’s a double click if you click on the bookmark folder name …
Could this be changed so they are all single click ? -
More attractive interface please
Most chrome-based browsers look very flat and boring, but they don't have to be.
I'm using 1.3.544.25 and I'm sure there was a tab-rounding function in 1.2 … it's not in 1.3 but I did use that.In Avant ( have I mentioned Avant before ?? ) whichever engine IE, Firefox or Chrome, the interface is the same and it looks excellent. The bars have subtle shading to make them look convex / 3D

Add 'Fast Forward' function to rocker gesture by pressing holding left mouse button followed by right click (Opera 12 had this).
-
In mouse gestures, make'Open Link in New Tab (Over a Link) a separate mapping. It is currently forced together with the 'New Tab' gesture mapping.
-
Double-click tab bar to open a new tab.
