Snapshot 1.0.174.8-1 Startup settings and tab-switching performance
-
Hi Espen.
-
You/we have the Best browser out there not only for this main reason for me: Developers listens, giving questions. And then, based on responses, developing the software. We dont have to wait for something for two years, Vivaldi have it in the matter of weeks, and not years. Thanks for that.
-
We all pop up sooner or later, don't we
Well, looks like, on MAC, that the saved window (I have only tested with one) does not open before I try to open a new window after startup.
-
You can drag more easily using the Native Window option, that creates a title bar on the top (although it doesn't show anything). It should make your life easier until Vivaldi lets you drag the window by the method you described.
-
Req! Single click in bookmarks!
I hope they will make single/double clicks optional. I've started to appreciate double-clicks.
-
The address field is still popping open periodically in this build.
-
I hate double clicks! Don't have the time

100%. This is the recipe for success for any business: customer feedback. Thousands of people will certainly be able to come up with lots of great ideas - many more than even a brilliant team of developers (not that this stops said developers from coming up with ideas on their own). The more Vivaldi solicits suggestions the better their software will become.
-
New build installed, and I am quite happy with it.
Now the only things Vivaldi needs before I switch to it as my primary browser are the ability to right-click and insert a note, some fixes for notes handling (I can't close a folder in the notes once I've opened it), private tabs/windows, and an ad blocker (granted I can supplement with Adguard if needed).
-
If you delete your history files from User Data, this issue is permanently gone.
-
I'm wondering if the fact that you are creating two processes per tabs may be to blame. Can't you try with only one process for the whole UI ?
-

Gotcha. I have a disability and have trouble mis-clicking sometimes. What I do now is single-click and hit 'enter' to open the URL. Saves me from making mistakes.
-
Thank you. I've done it.
-
Uau! Thank you, I just open the browser and noted the huge difference while changing tabs. It's really better than before.
Keep the good work
-
Ok, used the browser a bit more now, and found out it still has one problem left from the previous build: Youtube comments. Whenever I click on a comment box on Youtube, all I can do is watch the profile pic and comment buttons disappear. I can still reply to other comments, but never create a comment of my own. Reported as a bug.

I tried creating a simple tabbed browser with thrust (It's using the same UI principle as Vivaldi)
It is way faster at switching tabs. So it certainly is possible -
Thanks for the new snapshot! Switching tabs is a little faster now.
Importing from Opera 15+ still only imports Opera's Bookmarks Bar for me. I had to copy all my bookmarks from 'My Folders' to the 'Bookmarks Bar' folder so that all of it is transferred to Vivaldi.
And also, when I try to organize my bookmarks (drag and drop to folders), some of the folders are too fast to expand and I keep having trouble dragging what I want to a specific folder, especially if the entry I want to drag is at the top and the folder is at the bottom. Since some folders are expanding too fast while the file/folder passes through them and expanding, it can get quite confusing and chaotic.
My suggestion is that please delay the expansion of a folder for a few seconds. Or add an optional toggle to disable it and I can just manually expand folders for drag and drop. Thanks!
edit: After updating, I'm experiencing random crashes at the moment. Not sure why. Currently testing on my Mac for now. Refreshing speed dial thumbnails still uses too much cpu btw.

when can we test the mail and sync section dev team?
-
i hope the setting section getting combine into the tab section when goes beta milestone…

Aaahhh…. Finally... This weeks
fix… I mean...Dose… No ! Snapshot ! Yep ! That's what I'm talking about ! Snapshot !I have reserved an Ancient PoC (Piece of Crap) system at work just to test Vivaldis Performance on it and I must say : Tab Switching has gotten better...
BUT as ruari pointed out, Tab Creation & Closing is not fixed yet : Hold "Ctrl + T" for a few seconds and see the magic happen !
I'm sure you're going to fix that in the weeks to come But I really hope this dream is not far fetched...
Ok... back to nagging !
1. BUG : "Close Other Tabs" closes ALL of the Tabs including the current one !
2. Feature Request : "Close Tabs to the Right" & "Close Tabs to the Left"
3. Feature Request : Opening a new tab next to the current one because a child should be next to its mother. this is how ChrOpera opens tabs and seems more usable than opening them at the end of the tab list. And thanks again for a great snapshot today !
