Ram problems
-
The problem with RAM is a fact that the user of Vivaldi has to face, this consumption most of the time due to the high number of features that the browser has in order to facilitate the life of its final user. Here's a print of Vivaldi's consumption on my machine with only 2 open flaps.
-
@Nlope: The high number of features actually causes a user to reduce load on the processor and consumption of RAM. Every feature that would otherwise require an extension does NOT increase resource hunger in the browser, but rather is just one more extension the user never has to install, thus economizing on processor cycles and RAM. Almost every extension you install runs its own process and requires its own memory space. Features in the browser do not. Features save on resources.
The single exception to this general rule is that the Vivaldi UI does run its own processes and require its own memory space. Unlike most Chromium browsers, who always open at least two processes every time the browser starts, Vivaldi always opens at least three. But then that's it. Each additional feature creates no more load, while each additional extension does.

@Ayespy I understand, I install two extensions that for me are essences: LastPass and Adblock, they consume a little memory but I'm going through many crashes in the new Snapshot version because of what could be these same extensions?
I think that compared to firefox, chrome and other browsers vivaldi does not consume much memory for a browser that brings so many features, however it is starting to annoy certain users, as I said in another forum site I think there should be a bigger look for this Do not you think? -
@Nlope: I can't see offhand why you should be having crashes. LastPass and Adblock (most Vivaldi users seem to prefer UBlock Origin or UMatrix) should be fine with Vivaldi, unless there are once again problems surfacing with LastPass in Binary mode. I don't use extensions, so I can't test these. Perhaps a user of one or both could comment.
I don't have any crashes in routine use with Vivaldi at all. I also note you use Avast! This has caused problems in the past. I don't use 3rd party security software any more, and no longer recommend it since the advent of the MSE security tools for Windows 7.
I suppose the kind of content you deal with could also contribute, but I can't be sure how. Developers are always trying to find the reasons for crashes and prevent them.

If yes, what is the best solution? Because today users who use Windows do not have the luxury of not having antivirus protection ...
Windows Defender would be good, what would you recommend in such a situation? -
@Nlope: I can't say with any certainty what might be causing your situation.
I use Windows Defender and Windows Firewall. I'm also behind a secure (hardware-firewalled) router on a WPA2-protected wireless network. I, at least, haven't had an infection of any kind since the sasser worm in the 90's, and at that time I had a commercial AV.
I employ this kind of security on ten machines running Windows 7 or 10.
-
I want to say that I'm no particular fan of Windows or MS, but my daily use of GUI-based systems began at the places I worked in the early '90's, and I had no choice but to familiarize myself with that ecosystem. In this one instance, I think the builders of the OS did a better job with native apps for security than any 3rd-party vendor has ever done. It was not true by ANY means early on, but it sure is now.

ty for the reply, I have a lot of extensions running as well, I thought i had a virus or something, just multiplying vivaldi processes lol
btw is there a way to decrease the size of address bar and search bar without installing extensions? they are little too big on my 27in monitor Firefox had an addon for that, not sure if vivaldi has a similar addon -
@Ayespy I understand, I considered using MS or as it is now called Windows Defender for having say greater compatibility with Windows itself, but here in Brazil, program material shows how much WD (Windows Defender) is not safe. However I will spend some time with Windows Defender to see if it is Avast that is consuming too much resources on my machine.

I'm not sure of your requirements, but does the UI zoom adjustment help?
Tools/Settings/Appearance - User Interface Zoom(Note: this also changes the size of UI fonts, so may be more than you want).
-
@adgj533: There aren't extensions, but there are CSS modifications if you are brave. See the Modifications category under Third Party & Extensions. And, yes, you can zoom the UI.
-
I'm starting to consider that the problem is with the extension of LastPass ...
-
@Ayespy can you link me it, im not good with CSS but if you give me some directions, I can follow it well. I went to the third party mods section you told me about as well
-
@adgj533 - I don't know anything about CSS. That's the purview of the wizards over in Modifications https://forum.vivaldi.net/category/52/modifications
