YouTube does not play video?
-
The page loads on YouTube but the video doesn't play.
I know I started a topic on this a few days ago, but it's back.
Sometimes it can take several minutes before the video plays.
Running v1.6.689.40 Very confused. -
I found something. Not sure if it's what you referring to. Also, not sure if there's any personally identifiable information.
Is there a way I could send the information to you using a confidential method? -
I finally got smart and tested loading YouTube videos using Firefox and Chrome.
YouTube loaded perfectly in both Firefox and Chrome.
This appears to be a bug. Will file a bug report. -
Guess what?
YouTube is fine in v1.7 which was released today (see Vivaldi blog). -
Hi, this is not a bug, Youtube plays fine here.
I think you are missing video codecs for windows, Chrome and Firefox have included codecs but Vivaldi not, iirc.
Try a forum search for windows codecs.Cheers, mib
EDIT: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/8136/h-264-mp4-video-not-working -
Then why is the YouTube video loading issue "on and off and on and off"?
Sometimes videos load and sometimes don't load. -

Sometimes videos load and sometimes don't load.Very hard to understand what your problem is.
Are you talking about a specific video which sometimes plays and sometimes does not - or is this referring to different videos?
Not all videos will use the same codecs etc.Perhaps if you gave link(s) to the video(s) which give problem(s)
and link(s) to video(s) which do not, someone might have a specific idea. -
@Gwen-Dragon said in YouTube does not play video?:
Depends on Windows Video Codecs and DRM and GPU and drivers which video runs fine.
Check if GPU is ok (no red warnings vivaldi://gpu ) and hardware acceleration is on.
Check if DRM is the latest:
- Open vivaldi://components
- At Widevine hut "Check for updates"
Checked the vivaldi//gpu Widevine is up-to-date.
Is there some way I could email the page to you? I have your email so if it would help I could/can send either the link or I could copy/paste the page to a docx/odt/pdf file then attach to email. Some videos can take up to fifteen minutes to load and play (yes, I timed it).
All other video sites work fine including Dailymotion and Metacafe.edit: additional

@ TbGbe
YouTube use html5 if that makes a difference.

From this I understand that your problem is NOT with ALL videos.
So again, examples would help. -
Hard to give examples/specific videos since the snafu is not predictable.
Any given video will play at one time then not play at a different time.
Let the page/video set long enough and it will play.
Sometimes right away. Other times it might take a while. -
Hello Para-Noid,
It seems you have already tried quite a few feasible solutions here. My suggestion for you is to disable hardware acceleration at vivaldi://chrome/settings/search#hardw and disable all installed extensions at chrome://extensions. Then try to reload any open Youtube Video(s) to see if these changes fix your problem. If they do not fix your problem, please revert these settings back to their original states.
Best regards,
Nabil Sharif

I've been having this issue as well. My laptop is an HP Pavilion 15 with 4th Gen i5, Intel HD Graphics, and I have uBlock Origin. I noticed it sometime after Vivaldi updated to Chromium 55. It never happened before.
My sister just bought a new laptop with an AMD chip, and after installing Vivaldi, she too experienced the same problem on the first day. YouTube videos are completely black, and stay that way for a few seconds before even loading the video.
I found a thread on Reddit with others talking about this on Chrome. So I think we're not the only ones experiencing this issue. With this many people experiencing it, I hope it gets resolved really fast. https://www.reddit.com/r/youtube/comments/5lzut8/youtube_videos_taking_a_while_to_get_started_when/

Thanks for the link! At least I'm not the only one with this issue.
Must have something to do with the Chromium v.55 update. -
@Para-Noid That's what I think, as that was around the time I noticed the issue, when Chromium 55 came out. I hope 56 fixes this.
