Update to Chromium 136 – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 3679.3
-
This stopped my browser from loading. Had to reinsatall an old version. Maybe this update should be blocked given how many of us are having this issue with no idea what the issue is

After this update macOS version has lost

works.Reported VB-116715 just in case.

Is there any more information on the "inherited from upstream" part of this as it relates to the upcoming MV2/MV3 debacle? Given that MV2 is meant to be around until even 138, I'm not understanding how lowly 136 could have been impacted. Are we talking upstream beyond 138?!
-
@rseiler It's a gradual thing, Google will make it harder and harder to install and run Mv2 extensions and from what I've read in Chr139 Mv2 will be completely removed for everyone at once.
Since Chr136 it is no longer possible to install Mv2 extensions from the Chrome Store.
Since Vivaldi follows every 2nd Chromium release usually, my guess will be:
Vivaldi 7.4 - Chromium 136
Vivaldi 7.5 - Chromium 138
Vivaldi 7.6 - Chromium 140
So possibly we might get a little time after Chr138, my guess end of August or early September.https://chromestatus.com/roadmap

In seismic terms, which I know well, they are small grade 5 tremors before the grade 8.8 earthquake arrives.
-
@rseiler They implemented a dialog in 136 for informing the user. That dialog did not work with Vivaldi, causing a crash (which we did not see until somebody with Mv2 extensions started using the updated version).
-
Those who use snapshots are asking you to please have the team install at least one MV2 extension. They are begging you.
-
@barbudo2005 Actually, one QA did have such an extension installed, but did not try the 136 version before it was integrated.
-
When clicking on the extension icons, this message appears asking you to refresh the page.
windows 11- Vivaldi: 7.4.3678.3 -
@pathduck: It finally worked after not only shutting Vivaldi down, but using task manager to completely remove some browser traces. Thanks.
-
None of the chrome://settings pages are being displayed for me.
Is this an issue that was expected? -

That makes sense to me given that even Chrome won't get 140 until early September (though in its case, it will already have been taken out by 139, something Vivaldi won't be). Factor in the usual couple weeks that it takes Vivaldi post a release, and mid-September seems the earliest possible timeframe.

Do you use V2 extensions?
yes, some with the most prominent being uBlock Origin.

Using uBlock Origin.
as longtime uBlock Origin user i sugest switch to AdGuard:
https://adguard.com/en/blog/adguard-browser-extension-mv3-release.html
(can import User/Custom rules from uBlock Origin, and have similar "select object by mouse" functionality as uBlock Origin) -
@npro:
too confirm
on Xubuntu 24.04, with extensions: AdGuard, Privacy Badger, Dark Reader -
@dayfuaim Just gave this a try, but I could not reproduce your issue - all the shortcuts worked fine here (on macOS 15.3.2). Do you use any extensions? Could you test with a fresh profile?

https://adguard.com/en/blog/adguard-browser-extension-mv3-release.htmln)You're referring to the extension there, which is fine if heavier than uBOL because of the way that it operates.
People should be aware though that AdGuard Windows, a different thing than what you're talking about but easily confused with it, comes with a notable problem that's easy to hit...and which has been around for years off and on:
https://github.com/AdguardTeam/AdguardForWindows/issues/5412A workaround is to change the network driver from the recommended one to the other. It's an unfortunate situation.
