Contacts CardDav sync

@oliverczulo said in Contacts CardDav sync:
I'm sure we all agree on this one, I do wonder, though, why (if I understand correctly) it is implemented for Vivaldi Webmail, but not for the client?
Vivaldi uses an open source server application for their webmail service, it's not self developed like the browser UI and the desktop mail client (or the android and phone and car apps)

Hey folks
,
I made a similar request 3 years(!) ago. I completely understand that with such a vast amount of requests from the user base and a manageable small team, many decisions have to be made and many requests have to be backlog'd or rejected.
BUT: at least in my world and in my productive everyday life, I still avoid using Mail, Calendar and Contacts in Vivaldi for exactly this reason! Working effectively with synchronized mail and calendar accounts without synchronizable contacts via CardDAV is an absolute showstopper.
At this point, I really cannot understand why this feature in particular is not given a higher priority. In my view, this drives many users away from these functions. For me personally, it makes the whole topic of communication within Vivaldi completely useless. I simply do not want to have to maintain a separate, non-integrable address book...that simply makes no sense...I already have a very well maintained one that I can sync anywhere!
Don't get me wrong: I really love Vivaldi as an absolute workhorse and as an ambassador I have installed this browser for at least 250+ customers over the last few years as part of my professional activities. But I find this topic in particular to be really dubious. I would immediately switch everything to Vivaldi Mail, Calendar, Contacts if I had the option to sync everything. But as it is at the moment, I don't use any of it.
I really hope, as I seem to be not the only one who is concerned about this, that this issue will be addressed in the near future. It seems to have a lot of value for many users.
Cheers

After the fiasco this month with the Vivaldi sync service going down for days, there should be no doubt self-hosted sync is a necessity...
-
@brianWreaves carddav sync would run via amy carddav service. You can already do that, there is no connection to Vivaldi's Sync server at all here. Vivaldi's integrated email client doesn't have the protocol implemented yet, which is what this thread is about.

I think it would be in the interest of the community to find out from the development/product management side why there has been no implementation here for years. From my point of view, the current situation is completely incomprehensible because CalDAV without CardDAV (or vice versa) simply makes absolutely no sense! Moreover, this fact is THE reason why many of our customers do not use Vivaldi as a production suite. And that's a real shame, because Vivaldi is actually the best browser on the market and we all love it!

After two days of struggling with massive CPU usage error, setting up and testing the connections of calendars, task managements and email accounts, I'm just banging my head on the table. Everything seems to work satisfactorily, all that's left is to import contacts. Really? After 3 years still no CardDAV? No problem, I'll go play Vivaldia.... eh no. I'm going to install Thunderbird back. Sorry guys, no offense. You're doing a great job. I've loved Vivaldi since Opera went bad. But the lack of CardDAV support, or any viable way to sync contacts, is the fatal big nail in the coffin of serious use of Vivaldi as an email client. I don't want to complain about something I get for free from you, I'm just tearing my hair out. My fault. I'll try again in a few years if I forget.

@KiniT
No apology needed. Vivaldi’s team has chosen to make this counterproductive decision... The more criticism the better. -
@brianWreaves
I'm not apologizing. I'm just expressing my despair. I think Vivaldi does a really good job as a web browser. But unfortunately, the lack of CardDAV contact sync and CalDAV sub-tasks support, prevents me from giving freedom and a better life to one slave who manually rewrite data between five different places. This situation is generally sad if you don't want to submit to the G * * * * e or M * * * * * * ft ecosystem. -
A lot of frustration seems to be venting on this issue. It would certainly be absolutely sensible to consider how we as a community can escalate this issue to the point where we can once again find a receptive audience at the relevant authorities. I consider this extremely critical...and I truly don't understand at all why the situation is the way it is. I would also find this worthwhile to find out, for the sake of everyone.

It's more than necessary if I want to replace Thunderbird by Vivaldi. Some tools should be achieved before adding new ones IMHO.
-
Same here. I'm clearly waiting for such a tool before switching to Vivaldi as single desktop tool.
-
Please implement this

I am just starting to use Vivaldi as my main browser, trying to use European based software companies and services where I can.
Missing Contacts sync service is my #1 missing point.
Providing users with CardDAV service would be amazing. Thanks

I looked and looked after this, and did not find it. Count me in for a feature request for this one.

@ovalente welcome to the forum! If you haven't done so, vote up the very first post in this thread by liking it. That was your vote is counted

An empty address book isn't helpful at all.

This post is deleted! -
@mzimmerm same for me. Thanks for your post.
-
@haindaal The best thing is to like the first post.

@Topha Strong support from my side for this request: email, calendar and contacts integration would be a unique selling point for Vivaldi. I think it's a great idea to no longer have to leave the interface for such (largely web-based) services.
On a scale from 0 (very bad) to 10 (perfect), I rate the integration of the e-mail at 6, the calendar at 4 and the address book at 1. By the way: I'm not talking about Vivaldi Webmail (I have no need for another webmail provider) but about the client integrated into the browser.
