ProtonVPN – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 3648.3

@npro No, it is a severe issue;
It is bad for accessiblity, UI is not allowed to blinden users or cause seizure or similar. -
@Ruarí Not fot PCLinuxOS
-
@greybeard We do not have a repo for you but you can download a build from the links in the blog post.
FWIW, there is no repo for my distro of choice either.

@Ruarí My agenda? I think you need to pay much better attention to what your community says when you make reckless changes like that one (your agenda):
@Cretec said in Please let us modify the new Splash Screen:
I have issues with my eyes that require me to use dark mode on just about everything or risk migraines. This can literally cause me headaches, and did the first time. Luckily, after that, I knew to look away.
Of all the things, who thought a splash screen may force me to change browsers.
@Didzy said in Please let us modify the new Splash Screen:
Having a dark OS and dark themed browser to then be flashed by this is not nice. I would prefer it was darker if not black.
@maniac0 said in Please let us modify the new Splash Screen:
people that use dark theme are very much affected by this and I can see that I would be annoyed as well.
@cringe said in Please let us modify the new Splash Screen:
its like a mini flash bang going off when working late.
@Truemotion said in Please let us modify the new Splash Screen:
It was not great, but now it is just straight ugly...
@Dancer18 said in Please let us modify the new Splash Screen:
I have a dark theme. Nevertheless, the splash screen here is bright, which I don't find suitable at all.
@WerewolfAX said in Please let us modify the new Splash Screen:
a "back to dark" would be good then? Seems the darker one wasn't a problem for anyone.
@DavidBevi said in Please let us modify the new Splash Screen:
The new splash screen is a flashbang, please let me revert.
@MrJedrula said in Please let us modify the new Splash Screen:
rly guys? Who need this? All I can fell is cognitive dissonance
@Cretec said in Please let us modify the new Splash Screen:
It sucks. I do dark mode everything due to issues I have with my eyes. It can actually cause headaches for me.
@Stardust said in Please let us modify the new Splash Screen:
really should be reverted to the previous splash screen in the next snapshot or improved by replacing background to the solid dark one.
@alonezw said in Please let us modify the new Splash Screen:
I downgraded to 7.2.3621.63, because it doesn't contain the new splash screen.

@Diphbda said in ProtonVPN – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 3648.3:
@Ruarí With the Proton VPN installation I got a nice gift which was a Ads injector in Japanese in my Youtube.. The minute I uninstalled it everything returns to normal. I was using the free VPN. Someone has to explain things a bit here.
Cheers
@Ruarí said in ProtonVPN – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 3648.3:
@Diphbda Are you sure it was "ads injected" and not just regular ads. The free version will potentially connect to a range of different end points and that includes the Japanese one. You cannot control this with the free account but you can with the paid one. If you were connected through Japan and went to Youtube, it will assume you are in Japan and show Japanese ads. That is expected.
To add to this. @Diphbda Assuming you are using an ad blocker it may not have a blocklist for Japan installed. My guess is Japanese ads will go away when you install a blocklist for Japan.

I am still on older snapshot version and can confirm that new bright splash screen is bad when you use dark themes in OS or Vivaldi.
There are already 30 upvotes in the thread were users complain about new splash screen.
Another issue is new VPN button: it automatically installs Proton VPN extension without any user warning or confirmation. Not good.
-
I don't need a vpn so I removed it from my extensions.
Now I am curious, if one day I'll decide I want to try it, how do I reinstall it? -

My guess, just by installing it from Chrome web store

Oh it's the same version on the store? I thought it was a tailored free version made for Vivaldi only. OK
-
@iAN-CooG I am not 100% sure here
-
My understanding is that if you install it through Vivaldi you can use your Vivaldi account to sign in to it rather than needing a Proton account. Other than that, it's the same extension.
You can always add the button back to a toolbar as it is present in the "Customize Toolbar" option to install that version
-
@ian-coog: You can enable it again from Prefs/Privacy and Security/ Enable Proton VPN and it should fetch it

@Ruarí Hi Ruari,
Nope I am in Canada and the Free Proton VPN was logged in Netherlands. My PC is in French (Canadian) and I use youtube.ca that in any cases probably log into the USA. So the Japanese Ads were not expected something like one on eight tiles where in Japanese offering Jobs, games etc. So, something was happening outside my control and my two antivirus and one firewall.I cannot explain as I did scan twice with different s/w for malwares and could not find anything. Again for me it came from the VPN connected in The Netherlands. Therefore a compromised node on the VPN or the VPN is itself compromised. Not funny in both cases.
Cheers
Diphbda
ps. is there a way to change the user name I made a mistake way back and my fingers added a b in the name.
-
it's very funny but here, in Russia, I have to use another VPN to access Proton web site.
it's servers are also blocked, so I can't use it -
is there a data limit on the vpn ive been running it all day and its still trucking, amazing job if not, i have a paid vpn but wanted to give it a fair try it seems great

Address Field Suggestions: There is still a doubling. Only the first one is functional (the one outlined in red).
-
On Debian Linux the ProtonVPN loads incredible slow and it refuses to login. Not sure where to post this
Looking forward to this functionality as a long time Proton customer and Vivaldi user.

@Thot
Hi, this is fixed but was not ready for this snapshot.@eluxzen
Hi, can you open a new thread for the problem, please?
The snapshot threads get's closed often very quickly.
Add all information, do you have a Proton VPN account already, it logs in automatically for me.
Error message and/or screen shot.Cheers, mib

The Vivaldi Password Manager Shortcut on the Menu Bar still doesn't work.
