Privacy Without Compromise: Proton VPN is Now Built Into Vivaldi
-
@0x49d1: It is free VPN service allowing you to login with an account that Vivaldi users already have. It was also one of our most requested features. So yeah… big milestone.
-
@kocho: You will get it soon.
-
After selecting "Login with Vivaldi", Proton VPN is using my Yahoo email that was created through my ISP, not my Vivaldi email.
I'm not able to select a country other than the U.S. without being taken to their Upgrade page.
Is that the way it should work?
If not, what should I do? -
@AllanH The nearest VPN server is used.
You can not select others without paid upgrade of Proton VPN.
I think it is intended for a free giftby Vivaldi.
-
@pgaa: Well if you are at a virtual location outside of Norway, e.g. Amsterdam then of course the geoblocking that many media sites implement will indeed prevent you. However if you upgrade to a paid account you can pick your location and you could pick Norway.
As for things like TV2 Play, they actually do work if you login (even if your location is Amsterdam).
Finally, this is a new feature, you lost nothing. You can also choose not to use it and you have exactly the same as before.

@DoctorGTesting OK, thanks.
-
@oudstand: Not yet but it will be in the next one.
-
@gregor: Next snapshot will have a higher number.
-
@internetuser: 2FA should not be an issue. However their might be an issue right now if you change your backup email after first login. We are looking into that.
In the mean time if you cannot wait for a fix, create a free login with Proton and use that to login because their own logins also work.

Does this version still support Manifest V2
Yes.
-
@doctorg: Thanks!
-
@doctorgtesting: Why are you asking this here
-
@Ruarí said in Privacy Without Compromise: Proton VPN is Now Built Into Vivaldi:
Why are you asking this here
Because i always think that i crapped my KDE xdg-mime or Vivaldi has a bug with access of settings.
Perhaps i had checked bug tracker? -
@Ruarí Well. I have tested ProtonVPN on my phone, If connected to Norway server, you can't reach NRK, TV2 Play etc. Even you use split tunneling and exclude these apps from use VPN it still doent work. And I need exclude for examle play.tv2.no etc fom using VPN if it should works in the browser also when Im connecting to ProtonVPN as well... Other VPN apps works.. But enough about that... .
-
@Ruarí I should better remember my reported bugs. Already known.
VB-115054 "Vivaldi does not detect that it is already default browser" - Unconfirmed. -
Could we have a discussion about how this works? Is DNS sent through Proton? Is all data routed through them?
-
Thank you for the great initiative and the great work on Vivaldi browser.

@paul1149
Hi, I guess it is better to open a new thread in security, such discussions get always lost in these threads.Cheers, mib
-
@Ruarí Considering the new version is based on branch-head 3635, does this mean that changes released in snapshots post-7.2 (branch-heads 3639+) aren't included?
-
@levrini: We bumped that number to simplify some things for us. Proton is the only change since yesterday's minor update.
