Vivaldi 7.2: Speedy and smart, a serious update.

@hukimato nope
-
@sjudenim: Yeah, hope this gets changed again

@superiorclam
Hi, you can try to change the device name.
You may get a ghost device until it disappear after some time. -

@mossman said in Daily snapshot β Vivaldi Browser snapshot 3621.36:
[Mail][Performance] Endless loop in threading, causing high CPU (VB-100468)
My gaming laptop went from 7% CPU to 0.2% CPU... so I think we can call that a win!
I'll check the anno-2010 desktop PC next...
From 67% CPU to 0% ! Fantastic!
It took some time re-doing the database before heavy disk activity stopped and I could estimate a settled-state CPU usage.
I saw that the status bar mentioned sorting sent-to-self into received and sent messages... so that fixes another longstanding problem.
The gaming laptop was also at 0% a little while after I posted that last message, so this makes a huge difference to machines affected by the bug. Good work!
-
Thank you for this release. I had used the snapshots before but now I will migrate to the stable release channel.

Thx!!

@atlemo Hm, it's readable if a little small for me. But I think you get the idea, one big list on the left, and basically nothing on the right.
Thank your for clarifying about the frequency algorithm, but here's the thing: I use this thing for work, every day, so I literally don't have time to give. The search suggestions don't bother me, but need bookmarks and history, and it's a real downgrade for me to have to go to bookmarks and history in separate tabs and then search them.
It certainly is faster now, but fast at the price of functionality isn't a good trade-off for me. Anyway, thank your for replying, it's good to know that at least you're [the Vivaldi devs] willing to talk about it.
However, like I mentioned, this is unfeasible for me, so I need to go download a downgrade. I'll keep an eye on any developments.

@jorpheus
Please don't downgrade Vivaldi, it break your user profile.
I use quick commands (F2) for searching bookmarks, they bother me in the address bar.
You can enable only history and bookmarks, may it work for you. -
Unwanted address bar change. People do not like it. Calling it "In true Vivaldi fashion, you are in charge" when downgrading the feature, actually taking AWAY the ability to customize it, is quite funny.
It's also buggy. It's pulling typed history as "search" (items?) in some situations even if history (and typed history) is disabled, instead of showing search suggestions like it should.
E.g. when typing some character, " g ", then using backspace to erase it and immediately entering " e " char, the address bar shows 2 "search" items from my typed history, although it should show "ebay", "espn", "etsy" as search suggestions. Sometimes this happens even when opening a new tab and quickly entering the " e " char to the address bar. It's a mess.

But can somebody explain, what "Direct Match" does in the address bar settings? Seems to be different from using the search engines defined, but I don't fully understand what it does.
This is another misstep, the previous search options page had a
?
which gave a little description as to what each search did. Pulling from that it saysShortcut to known brand websites
(this will also be affiliate sites) -

Thank you very much for this update
Unfortunately, with the new version I have some issues which are a little bit annoying.
One thing is the panel, which is always opened when I start Vivaldi, despite I'm closing Vivaldi with the panel closed.
Same here!
-
+1 Definitely speed up.
-1 Still I can' t close speed dial quick settings panel click anywhere. Must click X.
-1 Where is my old ADD Speed Dial button.
The new one is nice but sometimes I might want the old one too.

Ah, got it! Thank you very much for clarifying.

[Menus] Add βShare Vivaldiβ to Help menu (VB-114495)
Can't find such item in my Help menu.
-
@jorpheus: Even if you enable "Prioritize Bookmarks", you don't get a hit?
-
"We made pages load faster. For some of you it will be more than twice as fast."
Which one in the changelog does that correspond to? The only one I can imagine it being is this:
[New][Performance] Reduce latency on domain lookup (VB-114417)
But twice as fast? Doubtful. And it would only apply to sites that you'd never visited before, because otherwise it would be in the DNS cache. Either way we should only be talking fractions of a second.
Maybe it was just omitted from the list.

This update made a few things I got used to over years dissapear:
- When typing into address bar you could select an element and its address (not title) would appear in the field available for CTRL+C. Now it doesn't until you "Enter".
- It was possible to have side panel open only for a specific pinned tab (RSS Feeds), so it would dissapear when switching to another tab. The side panel stays for every tab now. Why do you even need a side panel for Feeds? Haven't you seen how Opera did it in the past?
- It looks like some bugs were introduced too. I only have feeds enabled, and for some reason, when changing windows (have one open for each of two desktops), they stop working. The Feeds icon disappears from the side panel and I have to add it back manually, which doesn't work most of the time, while the pinned Feeds window shows "Mail is in another window" message.
Wish you'd leave alone the old stuff that works and introduce new stuff only after it's been properly tested. Would also appreciate an option to keep the old behavior, since not many people would prefer to change their browsing habits every update.
There also seem to be some "speed" issues, as sometimes you could end up with an empty page (the mouse pointer still reacts to the invisible objects), which resets when you minimize and maximize the window.

Hi, Vivaldi Devs! Thanks for the great work! I love this browser.
But i think this last update broke something.
Try this:
Got to Settings -> Privacy & Security -> WEBSITE PERMISSIONS
In Global Permissions, I have cookies / session only.
When I try to add a domain to create an exception, I can't. -
Great update guys, the shortcut override was a feature that was needed, and thanks for reverting the ctrl-f functionality. Also decoupling feeds from mail was the right move and I think you may have fixed an annoying extension crash I had so overall a lot of things have been improved.
-
After the update, all my workspaces were empty.
I suppose I shouldn't have been using workspaces like sort of bookmark collections, but it was just so convenient. Collecting all of that context back together is going to be difficult.
