@mossman said in Daily snapshot – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 3621.36:
[Mail][Performance] Endless loop in threading, causing high CPU (VB-100468)
Interesting... I wonder if this solves the many complaints about high CPU usage with mail over the years. This snapshot laptop doesn't suffer from that problem, so I can't test unfortunately. Stable builds on my gaming laptop and desktop PC both use a lot more CPU than they should, so it would be nice if this gets fixed at last...
My gaming laptop went from 7% CPU to 0.2% CPU... so I think we can call that a win!
I'll check the anno-2010 desktop PC next...

Hello, is there a way to revert the address bar change? While I'm happy for anyone who thinks it improved, it's genuinely ruining my experience: whereas I could type a keyword and get 50 results, I now get (seemingly completely arbitrary) ~10? I can screenshot it if you'd like a side-by-side, but I'm guessing you know this and this is by design.
-
@jorpheus: Hi there. The intention is to deliver more relevant results, quicker. I'm not sure why you would want a list of 50 possible results, when you could have 10 or 12 that are actually relevant? Obviously, if none of the results you are getting are relevant or correct, that is a bug we need to resolve. But it might also take some time to fully propegate, especially if you have set things up in a very specific way using the old implementation. If you could, a side-by-side comparison would be very helpful.
-
How can I increase the listed entries in the address bar? It's now limited to 20 entries and not scrollable anymore and even not available on an active site. How can I now open the address bar history, when I am on an active page via mouse? The drop down arrow is gone?
I use the address bar to easily navigate between frequently visited sites without opening the dashboard or the usage of the keyboard. I can just visit all may pages laid back with my mouse. Now I need a keyboard and have to type a "search term" for every page I want to visit. I don't think this is better.

But there are fewer entries. Where can I set how many entries I can see?

Relevant is subjective in this case. I primarily use the address field to bring up bookmarks and history(which I clean daily). Not only are they no longer on top in the drop down, but the results are limited. If one only uses the address field for search engines (isn't that what the search bar is for?) then I suppose this might be an improvement. I interact with a lot of the same sites on a daily basis so prioritizing search suggestions is of less relevance to me
-
Sure, thank you for looking into it.
I was a little taken aback by your remark about wanting x number of relevant results - how would you [the browser] know what I consider relevant? Since there is no context and no other criteria, I would expect it to show whatever has the keyword in its name or address.
Anyway, here's a comparison. I don't think anyone could argue the one on the right shows more relevant results.
Edit: just to confirm, I used the same keyword for both ("kubernetes").

You can't (for now?...).

49th updated
had a hang (hang lasted about 5 to 6 minutes) after first load of 7.2, not sure if somethings were getting updated, as the GUI was frozen and the tools menu did not load -
@jorpheus: Yeah, I dont like it either. It's just sometimes easier to just select the wanted entry. Sometimes you just know a certain search term but it's enough to find the searched entry. If I just see 10-12 Entries, I may not find the one I was looking for.
It's just not better than before. It's possible to have both:
- show more entries again
- sort by relevance
Now you have the best of both worlds. Why not make it configurable if not wanted by default? @atlemo

I am feeling speedier, smarter, and more serious than ever with Vivaldi 7.2! Thank you!

These all sound great. But what is important to me is the number of sites that fail to work with Vivaldi on Windows 11 Pro. I am so close to abandoning Vivaldi due to the number of times when a site stops responding, forcing me to use Chrome or Edge to complete my work.

I have literally NEVER had this problem in Vivaldi...

You/the browser can't know what is relevant to me. The last few days I've been using Firefox, I've had a dropdown with 100 results.
-
@jorpheus: I'm unable to see the high res version of that image
What I mean by "relevant" is due to us now using a frecency algorithm, so over time it should pick up on those sites that you visit the most. And if search suggestions are in the way, you can disable it - or even enable for search nicknames only.@sjudenim: Same for you, the frecency algorithm should pick up on those sites you visit on a daily basis, and over time they get a higher score.
I understand it's a big change, but I urge you to give it some time. We had a lot of complaints about the old implementation giving inaccurate and unexpected results, and in overwhelming amounts, as well as slow speeds. These are important things for us to try and improve.
-
@mib2berlin Thanks. Removing a few panels did speed it up marginally. Disabling all extensions did so quite a bit, but it was still slow. I also keep a short download list, which I understand helps speed. This is not an earth-shaking problem, but worth noting I think.

Thanks for your response.
I have 2 questions from it
-
If I clean my history (which I do at least daily) do the rankings get reset? This is what I was told in the testing process.
-
If the answer to the above is no, then are searches being stored even if we think we are cleaning our history?
Also, as I mentioned in the testing period, I do not get to prioritize what's important to me. Serach Suggestions are given top priority in spite of me wanting Bookmarks to be (with that option selected).

I really like this new 7.2 release. My browsing experience has been taken to the next level, and to be honest, it wasn't that bad before.
There's one thing that bothers me though. Sync stopped working a few days ago.
vivaldi:sync
showsCommit Step Result
:Protocol error (CONFLICT)
and I have no way to make it go away.Any suggestions?

@Asgatlat I have the exact same issue, but the response you got seemed unrelated. Have you found a way to fix it?
