Vivaldi Welcome Page Keeps Appearing After First Run
-
Hello everyone,
I’m new to Vivaldi — I installed it on my desktop PC yesterday and quickly got comfortable with it. I’m extremely happy so far!Today, I decided to install Vivaldi on my laptop. I enabled sync, and I noticed that themes and workspaces don’t sync, but that’s fine — I imported my theme and manually recreated my workspace.
However, no matter what I do, every time I open Vivaldi, the welcome page keeps popping up, which breaks my workspace setup.
I already searched the forum and asked AI for help, here’s what I’ve tried so far:I checked the Has_seen_welcome_page file, and it was already set to true.
I set the homepage to about:blank in the Vivaldi settings, but that didn’t help.
I verified that the "Startup with" option is set to "Last session" in the settings.
I completely uninstalled Vivaldi, deleted all related files, and reinstalled it — but the issue persists.
I’m out of ideas at this point.
Does anyone have any suggestions or insights? Thanks a lot!

@vladimirtotolidis When you close the Welcome page with Ctrl+W and restart that should help.

Thank you so much for your help!
It turns out the solution was incredibly simple — just pressing Ctrl+W to close the welcome page did the trick.
Everything is working perfectly now. Thanks again @DoctorG for your suggestions and support! -

Hi - installed Vivaldi yesterday and nothing but grief since. Reset did not help. Had to remove and reinstall application.
Now I experience the welcome page when I open vivaldi and whenever I click on an external link. Clicking bookmarks does open the bookmarked page.I have open to a specific page toggled on and a valid website entered there.
Control+W does nothing.
Any other ideas?
Thanks. -
Correction: I installed a Vivaldi update yesterday. The updated version would not open pages for a few minutes and then would not. The reset did not solve that, so I removed and reinstalled the program. I've been using Vivaldi for some time without this issue of a persistent welcome page. It is an issue with the newly installed version.
Thanks.

@Sweetpetespub When Welcome page comes up, click on the last circular button, hit
Ctrl W
and exit Vivaldi. -
Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I have gone through the entire welcome screen and am at the last dot. I do not want to set up email etc.
Clicking on CTR+W does nothing. Other keyboard shortcuts work as they should.
I also have investigated the preferences file and the value for Has_seen_welcome_page is True.Andre

@Sweetpetespub I do not know why with your Vivaldi 7.3.3635.7 on your Windows the shortcut
Ctrl W
does not close the tab with Welcome page.
For me on Windows 11 23H2 it does.Does
Ctrl F4
work for you to close Welcome page? -
It was odd. I should have given my particulars. Yes, newest version 7.3.3635.7. 64 bit. Win 11 fully updated.
I removed (w/ Revo) and reinstalled and now ctr+w closes the page.
Having done so, then closed and reopened vivaldi, I still get the start page on the last dot.
Also, clicking on an external link opens the home page.

@Sweetpetespub Could be installation settings and/or files were broken from a previous update.
But this are some rare cases. Now, you solved it by reinstall.
Congrats. -
No, nothing solved. Removing and reinstalling vivaldi got me to the point where I could close a window with ctr+w. That's it.
I moved through the start window screens to the last one and closed that window using ctr+w. On relaunch I'm right back at the start screen on the last dot.
Also, clicking on an external link opens the home page. And the problem of vivaldi locking up returned. That is, about 10 minutes after launching a new session, nothing will open in a new vivaldi window - the URL flashes in the address bar and then nothing.
I've spent way too much time on this. Thanks for your help, but I've got to move on.
